Got shipping report back says production date 12/8/1964 and original delivery dealer code 500 in Zone 0. Then it says the name and address for the dealer was Chevrolet Central Office? What does this exactly mean? Was this car used as a demo for someone at GM and when they where done with it would have been sold as a used car?

Re: Chevrolet Central Office on shipping report
Matthew,
With regards to the "Chevrolet Central Office" you typically hear the term COPO or Central Office Production Order. In some cases, a COPO car denoted a special option or color that was not available to the general public from the factory. Therefore, if a high ranking employee or relative /friend of a high ranking employee ordered through the Central Office they usually got something special. In other words, by ordering through the Central Office you bypassed the dealer.
I'll give you a few examples.
In 1966 they made only a hand full of COPO Corvettes. I want to say the number is 4 -6. They were "COPO" because of their color. In this case, I believe it was Trophy Blue with a Bright Blue interior.
In 1969 Chevrolet made the COPO Camaro’s. It was a 69 Camaro with an upgraded drive train. L72 (427ci x 450/425hp), M22 trans or TH400, and a high geared rear.
Mind you, if a police department ordered a fleet of new patrol cars, they too could be COPO's because typically you could not get police upgrades on a normal car.
Hope this helps,
Dave- Top

Re: Chevrolet Central Office on shipping report
The fact this car was delivered to the central office does not mean it was necessarily a COPO. COPO cars were not delivered to the central office they were ordered through the central office. This car was delivered to the central office probably an executive or something similar we do not know we just know what the delivery information indicates, Central Office.

Re: Chevrolet Central Office on shipping report
Also, some cars were ordered by GM's Public Relations department and used for various purposes including 'loan' to Hollywood for movie/TV requests. So, there can be a number of valid reasons for GM ordering/buying cars from the assy plants and those cars can be bone stock in configuration...- Top
