Re: Jay Kline Chevrolet, Minnesota
Those were the days! If you lived in the area in the 60's as I did and want to feel a bit nostalgic, think about Minnesota Dragways in Coon Rapids, the dragstrip in New Brighton, Lutz and Lundburg's A/gas Anglia, Al Tschida's green C/gas Willys, Tom Hoover's fuel dragster, cruising Lake Street, The Gopher State Timing Association's Rod and Custom Show at the Minneapolis Armory and there were many more. It was easy to be a car guy at least during the warm months of the year! Jerry
Your earlier post about Jay Kline Chev was interesting. Our friend Steve J. was a paraplegic due to an auto accident. He bought two brand new ('67s or '68s, air cleaner sticker said 460hp?) yellow Yenko Camaros there, both with automatics. He totaled the first one on the expressway. I have read where Yenko did not build any with autos until '69, so Jay Kline must have done the switch and added hand controls. Steve also bought a ZL1 crate engine thru them in the spring of '69, added Hillborn injection, Crower cam, B&M tranny, then stuffed it into a '48 Anglia with hand controls. Made several appearances at Minnesota Dragways in A/Gas.
Jay Kline also sponsored a C3 convertible in SCCA. I saw it at Donnybrook in Brainerd in the summer of '76. The car is still being raced today. See this link:
Race cars for sale and race cars wanted, rally cars, spares, memorabilia, transporters and pit equipment for sale with on-line photos and spec sheets.
I had my '75 vette into Jay Kline for some bodywork and my '77 Olds Cutlass as well.Last edited by Dennis S.; March 31, 2011, 08:23 AM.- Top

Re: Jay Kline Chevrolet, Minnesota
I have a situation with my 71 where two different dealer numbers have surfaced on the selling dealer. The Dealer is Matt Slap Chevrolet in Philadelphia and the two dealer numbers are 628 and 629. The tank sheet says 628 but the zone/dealer books that some people have list it as 629. I'll bet this is not uncommon but does confuse things. For some reason dealer numbers changed along the way.- Top

Re: Jay Kline Chevrolet, Minnesota
So...I guess there's no chance I can trace the original Jay Kline buyer of my '65 '396' rally-red roadster to determine original options, etc.? Several owners over the years have not been kind. At least it's still a numbers-correct car (found/installed the original block recently), but has abused paint, interior, windscreen, deck lid, etc. Looks like it did a Route 66 tour with surfer dudes! ;>)}- Top
