60ies Dealers in France - how to find out?

    tHi,

my car is a French delivery car with the respective tag in the engine bay. The shipping request yielded no specific dealer.
The previous onwer assumed that the car was may be sold around Nice. Is there a way to find out which dealers sold Corvettes in this area?
The now responsible company for he European Corvette, Hummer and Cadillac business doesn't have any information on this.

    Regards
    Oliver

    Oliver,

I’m in the same situation concerning my 1968 Corvette that was imported to Europe via GM Continental Antwerp and most likely sold new in Belgium or Netherlands. I have contacted NCRS Netherlands and wrote an article that was published in the last newsletter. I plan to expand the search to ask other Corvette clubs in the Netherlands and Belgium if they have any information or contacts. I also plan to ask Opel clubs, since GM vehicles from the USA were primarily sold through Opel-dealers in Europe, more or less like today.

More information about my car can be found at: http://www.c3registry.org/index.php?...te&car_id=2268

I would recommend you to take a similar approach for your search in France and contact Corvette and Opel clubs. What is the zone and dealer number on your car?

    Regards,
    Terje

      Terje,

The result of the shipping record was Dealer Code 2 Zone 21 - GM Direct - as for your car.
I've already tried what you suggested:
      • Contacted Opel.de, Opel.fr, Corvette Europe, GM Europe, GM US, GM Heritage, Vintage Vehicle Services Inc. - Authorized Documentation of General Motors Products (george.zapora-cc.gm.ca) - when sendig email repalce '-' by '@'
      • French Corvette Club
      • French Dealers who sell Opel around Nice today, whom I could find via Internet.
But without success. My problem with the search in France is my lack of French. I have a standard French mail provided by a colleague but phoning is impossible.

You may try to check if your Corvette was at least registered in Belgium by contacting:
      christoph.vandendriessche-mobilit.fgov.be
from Belgium Car Registration (DIV). He has checked for me if my Vette was registered in Belgium or if they have a record. But - if so - you won't get more information due to their privacy policy - only a confirmation if/if not.
But why do you think your car was sold in the Netherlands or Belgium? Germany delivery cars also had the 'GM Antwerpen' tag. Unfortunately, German Car Register (Kraftfahrt Bundesamt - KBA) has only got information on cars that have been registered within the least 7 years in Germany. Thus, this may not be a real trace for you.

it may still be worth trying GM Canada, In Australia almost all dealer and export chevrolets were ordered through GM Canada Export Division,By GM Holden, and GM Canada seem to have records for all cars that pass through Canada

          Terry,

this was one source I tried using the VIN of my car. But they don't have records that far back. But since you mentioned them it came to me to ask if they know at least Frenche dealers around Nice.

          Regards
          Oliver

Re: 60ies Dealers in France - how to find out?

            Oliver,

Thank you very much for the contact details to the Belgium Car Registration (DIV). I received a reply today saying they found a registration document from December 13, 1973 in the DIV archives. This also tells the first date of registration as December 20, 1969. Due to the protection of privacy, they cannot provide other information then the registration dates.

The continued search can therefore be limited to Belgium, and I plan to contact Corvette clubs in Belgium to ask if there are members that might know about this car.

            Thanks,
            Terje
