    Interesting Turn of Events

    The Shipping Report for my 1963 SWC indicated that it was shipped to a dealership in West Virginia; Childers Chevy in Nitro... Childers is now Turnpike Chevy and at the same location. Evidently a very small dealership.

    Some of the folks here have indicated that WV has retained DMV records for over 50 years so I mailed in an application for a title search; individual, along with the required fee thinking all the while that they would have some good information to move my search along..

    Yesterday I got my request forms back stamped "No Record Found" which really surprised me..... given the success some others have had with WV DMV...

    Is it possible that the car was delivered to WV but transferred to another dealership for sale... in another state..? Has anyone seen anything like this? The other possibility is that I sent away for the wrong information..

    Thanks for listening...

    Joel

    Dealers transfer vehicles all of the time (Tom Hendricks can chime in). My 95 was delivered to a dealer in Indiana, never titled there, and then transferred to a dealer in Kentucky and sold there.

      I suspect you are correct in this case... I guess I will expand my DMV search to adjoining states...

        Joel !

        Could it also be possible that your car was indeed delivered to Childers in WV, but sold to a customer who lived out of state. That would explain the no record in WV. Nitro is close enough to the state border of KY and OH that it could have easily been sold to a customer there too............. or anywhere else for that matter. Good luck !!

          Hi Tom;

          Thanks for the insight... Do you have any idea if KY and OH have retained their DMV records? I'll start looking of for the forms....

              Tom is correct. That is what happened to my car. Ordered and delivered to a Colorado dealership and originally titled in Kansas. The DMV only has records on title registration, not deliveries to dealers.

              BTW, Kansas still has registration history going back to at least 1963. probably much further. It was the best $10 I ever spent!
