John Geer Chevrolet / Geer Motor Company

    Hi all,
Now that more and more Shipping data reports have been sent, I wanted to know if anyone has discovered that their car was delivered to John Geer Chevrolet or Geer Motor Company out of Redding or Sacramento? My L79 coupe was shipped there new and have been trying and trying to get info on the dealer. I have discovered some 427 Camaro's and nice Vettes were delivered there. Anyone have a car from there? thanks. ARA

    Hi Ara

My 67 is from there. I was able to speak to the original owner once I found a paper trail.

      Bob,
Very cool. Tell me about your car if you can. I have read and heard that a lot of big motors (in Camaros, Chevelles and Vettes) came out of that dealership. He also operated under the name Geer Motor Company as well I believe. I have a license plate frame from the dealer. I wish I could find more memorabilia from the dealership - or at least see pictures of memorabilia from the dealership.
How did you track down the original owner? I am curious. I know the original owner of my 67 BB, but am still looking for info on the original owner of my small bock - the one from John Geer...I am excited to hear that there is another documented John Geer 67 Vette out there. Email me and I will send you some info I found on the dealer. THanks for the post. Regards.

        Hi Ara:

During a records search in Oregon, I discovered my 67 had been in Oregon since 1969. Included in their records was a copy of the original Ca. title. I did further searches on the individual owners and was able to contact 3, including the original owner. He was thrilled to hear from me had had a great recollection of the car. It was a small block Marlboro Maroon/Black interior. He bought it in Sacramento and I'll have to search for the address he gave me.

When he bought the car he insisted on one thing. He said he drove a lot and wanted a high gear in the car. Amazingly he said they removed a 3:08 from another new car, a 427 auto. It is still in the car today. The car was built Mid December and the rear is Mid January.

He shocked me when he told me he put 188,000 miles on it in 6 years! Guess he wasn't kidding about driving it a lot. It never required anything but exceptional maintenance performed every 1000 miles. I guess that original mileage certificate I received from the 80's is slightly incorrect as it states 44,000 original miles.

The car has been totally restored now and although the engine is long gone, it still has its original tranny and that changed out rear.

Bob, I just got my records from Oregon but all personal names were blocked out. Were they not blocked out on your records? If not, how did you go about getting the records with the names intact?

            Hi Russ:

I too received redacted private information. Unless you have an "official" reason for requesting it, they redact it.

I reviewed the locations of where my car had been and contacted all the Corvette clubs in those areas requesting any information or knowledge about my car. No one remembered the car but I received a package from one club saying they wished they could be of more help but included was a copy of all the records INCLUDING all the information previously redacted.

I can't tell you how excited I was! In the Oregon statutes, it states all the reasons and people that can request this info. Possibly you could get a PI to request it for you or try the Corvette clubs specifically asking if someone can run the records for you.

Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

            Bob
