    Arizona DMV

Has anyone delt with Arizona DMV? My car was shipped to O'Rielly in Tuscon, but they do not keep any sales records more than 6 years. I was hoping my next step would be A-DMV. I sent them an inquiry, but no response as yet.

    Re: Arizona DMV

I have. After hearing from several AZ DMV workers that they did not have records on vehciles that old on file or stored on microfilm I contacted the directors office. This is what they said "When a vehicle has not had any activity on our database we purge it from the system after five years. After 10 years under Arizona Statute we then purge the record."
I my case I knew there had not been any registratin or title activity since 1973. You can go to their website and print the Motor Vehicle Record Request, fill it out, include the $5.00 and see what you get.

          Re: Arizona DMV

I have inquired about title information, and it looks like anything older than 10 years old is gone (destroyed). It is unfortunate that this information, including photocopies of Manufacturers Statement of Origin, have been destroyed by Arizona. Here are recent responses that I received.

ADOT Response: Good morning. Thank you for your reply. The microfilm and purged records are destroyed after the 10 year record retention period. Thank you for using our email service. Have a nice day.
5/26/2011 10:15:20 AM Your Input: What happened to all of the microfilm with automobile title information from the 1960's and earlier?
5/25/2011 3:14:34 PM ADOT Response: Good afternoon. Thank you for your reply. Records are only retained in the archived record system for 10 years. Anything beyond that time are no longer accessible. Thank you for using our email service. Have a nice day.
5/25/2011 3:00:43 PM Your Input: Hello, Does the department still have old title and registration records on microfiche that can be manually searched? I've heard that some records are purged after 10 years, but does that mean they are destroyed, archived, or given to the Arizona Historical Society? I am a member of several car clubs that value historical information like this and want to know if this information still exists. I was able to obtain copies of all faces and backs of titles for a Corvette I owned in the late 70's, I want to know if this is still possible (30 years later)? Thanks. Bruce Tester
5/24/2011 12:14:43 PM ADOT Response: Good morning. Thank you for your inquiry. To request records you must submit the Motor Vehicle Record Request form that is attached to this email and list exactly what you are wanting to show on the records. If you qualify under the permissible uses and the records are still available we will provide copies to you at $3.00 per page. Thank you for using our email service. Have a nice day.
5/24/2011 11:58:40 AM Your Input: I own a 1966 Corvair and have a copy of the previous old title that lists the previous Arizona title number or record number. Does Arizona still have the old data on microfiche that can be manually searched for photos of the faces of the old titles? I would like to search the history of my car and possibly obtain a copy of the old titles and Manufacturers Statement of Origin (MSO). I was able to do this in the 70's for a 1968 Corvette that I owned. Is this still possible? Regards, Bruce Tester
