    Dealer to Dealer Sales

I received the data from NCRS (much thanks!) on my cars date of manufacture and ordering dealer. I was wondering if it was routine for the window sticker from the ordering dealer to be replaced with a new window sticker of the dealer that actually sold the car.
In my case the NCRS data showed Z Frank Inc.(Chicago) as the ordering dealer and I have a window sticker that shows Celozzi-Ettleson as the selling dealer. Both dealers are in the Chicago area. I am sure such swapping/selling of vehicles between dealers occurred when customers were looking for a vehicle with particular options, etc.that the dealer did not have in stock, but could find elsewhere.
I am planning on having a repop window sticker made to reflect Z Frank, Inc. as the original dealer. The car is a 92.3 Second flight car, and there were no deductions for the sticker. I have in the recent past, purchased new corvettes that were obtained from another dealer by my local dealer to suit my requirements.
I just thought this was an interesting topic. Thanks to Roy Sinor for providing the data, since every bit of knowledge we obtain on our cars provide insight to a bye gone era.

    Jim,

If your Corvette was judged by NCRS (and your statement: "The car is a 92.3 Second flight car" would indicate that) you should know that NCRS does NOT judge window stickers. Thus there is no reason for there to be any deduction, nor are there any points alocated to it.

Have you considered submitting a copy of the window sticker to NCRS for the document certification process?
    Terry

I would not think that dealers would replace the window sticker because usually a swap was made for a specific buyer;the car would not sit on the lot. A local dealer did such for me when I bought a Trans Am. He traded with a dealer in Greensboro to get what I wanted.

The vehicle that was traded to get the desired vehicle would receive a new window sticker because it will be on the lot of the new dealer.

I don't know if that was the case back then or not. It has never been the case in my nearly 30 years of showroom experience.

I know whindow stickers from the early 80's had a provision on the sticker for an additional dealer name if different from the selling / ordering dealer.

Here's a copy of an old 79 sticker.

James, Dealer to dealer, no sticker was ever changed. Palmyra Motors Inc. bought Corvettes from other Chevrolet dealers from anywhere $500-$1250 over invoice all over the USA in the good old days. Never was a sticker changed on a dealer to dealer deal.
The Corvette in question that you have might have, might have been for a GM exec therefor for finance purposes the car could have been reinvoiced and a new sticker and MSO made. Saw it done for a GM exec who bought a Camaro from us (Palmyra Motors Inc) back in 75. This was not "our" car originally. He found it at another dealer and had it sent to us. I kept the new copy of the MSO, GM sent 2 sets of paper work for car which I thought was odd.

I forgot to mention about "courtesy" deliveries. Z Frank was and still is Big on these vehicles deals. My Chevrolet Trailblazer came from Z Frank in DesPlaines, Il and was delivered thur O'Conner Chevrolet in Rochester, New York (here). "Courtesy" Delivery had the ordering dealer name / also the dealer to who delivered to on the sticker. Could that be what you are referring too ? That's the way that was done with both Chevrolet dealers names on sticker. Hope this helps. Save the Wave.

The legislation that brought about the 'window sticker' was driven by the perceived need to protect 'Rosie the Riveter' from those unscrupulous car salesmen. It was a mandate for the MANUFACUTURER to provide a fair warning disclosure on each vehicles' price/value, so that this 'new' class of customers (women inducted into the work force by labor shortage during WW2) couldn't be 'fooled' into overpaying.

From that standpoint, it makes no sense to me why DEALERS would be swaping window stickers on cars on the lot versus ZONE DEALERS executing such function on an as needed basis. The distinction; the dealer is typically an independent businessman working at arms length from GM where the zone dealer is a bona fide employee and agent of GM...
