Any Aledo/Galesburg, IL area members with a good memory?

I am looking for any help from members in the Aledo – Galesburg, Illinois area. I posted once before looking for information with no results but thought I would give it a second shot. Does anybody in the Aledo – Galesburg area have any recollection or knowledge of Barry Chevrolet Sales in Aledo, Illinois, Dealer 37 in Zone 47? They were around in 1962 to 1969 and possibly longer than that. May have become Essig-Welsh at some later time.

I have come across a photo from an ad for Barry Chevrolet that shows the building, phone number, Zip Code, but no address.

My 1963 Coupe, Saddle/Saddle, 340 HP was built October 29, 1962 and delivered to Barry Chevrolet Sales. Since this was an early car delivered to a small dealership in a small town it is very unlikely that this car would have gone unnoticed in its day. The car was imported into Canada around 1975. The person that imported it had tried unsuccessfully to buy it at Bloomington but was then able to make a deal a few weeks later. All he can remember was that the guy he bought it from was from Galesburg, was possibly in the parts business, and had an unusual double name like Alan Allen. If not the dealership, does anybody out there have recollection of the car or previous owner?

Thanks Dana, I believe it was you I got that from already from your book. It appears to me that this dealership had to be in business in October of 1962 since my car was shipped there and I also have a photo, all be it of poor quality from an ad around 1969 but there is no address in the ad. What also makes it difficult is that Aldeo streets are currenlty designated as NW, NE, SW, SE rather than just plain W., so that has changed at one time or other as well. I also found a Davidson Motors, spelled with a second "D", that was a Packard dealer that was listed as being on 7th. St. W.

My next step is a letter to the editor of the Aledo Times-Record to see if that jogs any memorys. I have it back to the person that imported the car into Canada around 1975 so I am probably looking at one or two elusive owners previous to that.

Oh well, the hunt continues.

That would be great Tom. It seems like it is just a black hole in that area. No offense intended to the residents, but I just cannot seem to get any response from the local car club, library, or newspaper. Anything lead or tidbit, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

You want to check with the city/county on tax records for that business to see if you get any names.
