    Werring Chevrolet NJ

Does anyone have any info (or memorabilia aka license plate frames,1964 Corvette brochures with stamped for this dealer) for Werring Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Basking Ridge, NJ. Believe that they went out of business in the early 90's. I would also like to find a dealer badge that they put on the rear of the cars when sold new. Dealer code 337 in zone 35.

Interesting story, I traded my 59 project car for my driver 64 just two exits south of the Basking Ridge exit on Rt 78. I was coming down from Connecticut and the 64 up from Maryland. Had I only know that the original dealership was a few miles away, we would have stopped for in for a possible photo opportunity, assuming the original buildings were still there. Oh well, appreciate any information anyone can provide.

    Thanks Art

    Art,
Since no one seems to know anything about Werring Chev. I thought I would let you know people are reading your post. I have lived in N.J. all my life and lived not too far from Basking Ridge for many years - used to play golf and had many a fine dinner in and around Basking Ridge. I never remember seeing a car dealership there, I am sure it was there - but it had to be very small. The center of town is a really old time square, very trendy town - not cheap to live there - railroad service into NYC and home to a very large ATT complex. Don't give up the ship, I have a 65 out of Wisc. that I too was always trying to come up with memorabilia for 10 years. I wrote an e-mail to Tom Hendricks who does a great job of helping us vette guys come up with additional info on our cars - told him I had all the paperwork but was looking for memorabilia. With-in 2 weeks he sent me info on 2 people with the same last name as the dealer - I wrote each one (included picture of the car) who I was and what I was trying to do. It turned out to be sons of the original owners of the dealership (which had been closed many years ago) - took over a month before I heard from
one of the men. A few e-mails and phone calls later the man contacted all his cousins trying to get some of whatever they might have - long story short I now have a great collection of memorabilia from the dealer. I am glad to say that part of my car paperwork has original forms that were signed by both men's fathers - which I sent them copies of and they were pleased to get. So we both made out very well.
Just keep plugging away, you never know what and where things are going to turn up. I will ask fellow vette heads I meet at Jersey car shows If they have ever heard of Werring. Good luck.

      Thanks Edward,

Werring Chev - Olds Inc. sold their lot in 2001, they were located at 3 S FINLEY AVBASKING RIDGE NJ
I'm sure that it was one of the many smaller family owned dealerships that might have sprung up after WWII. We had one in our town, looked more like a garage than a dealership but sold a lot of pickup trucks. In all the years they were open, they only sold but one Corvette.

Again I appreciate your response to my first post on the forum.

I got a chance to driver thru Basking Ridge and visit a real estate agency in the center of town. Werring Cheverolet was located almost across the street, has since been plowed over a and redeveloped into a very nice office building. Yes it must have been a small dealership but in a very afluent area. I've been able to track ownership to 1975, to a fellow who lived only two towns away and bought his parts at Werring. He had heard that a doctor's wife orginally owned the car. More digging to do over the winter.
