It was still in business in the late 70s as I drove past it on Hwy 101 on weekend trips between the SF Bay Area and Eureka. They had a huge sign next to the freeway that you could not miss, driving either north or south. I also do know that Comanche Chevrolet is not in business today. There was a GM dealership at or near the old Comanche Chevrolet site when I last went by there in November 2010.

      Randy,

Thank you for your reply. My '63 was built the first week of August 1963 and was delivered to Comanche Chevrolet in Santa Rosa, CA and I'm trying to find out more about this dealer as well as how my car got to Albuquerque, NM. I've had the car since 1981 and still drive it about 2,000 miles a year.

Anything else you can come up with will be helpful.

      Best regards, save the wave,

      Jim George 35533

I'm hoping some of the folks in Region IX will step up to the plate and provide more detail. I'm sure someone in the NORCAL area has a lot of info to dispense about Comanche Chevrolet. The reason I remember the big "COMANCHE" sign next to the Hwy 101 freeway (as I recall, it was just south of the main Santa Rosa exit, perhaps the next exit south from the downtown exit) is that I was in the U.S. Coast Guard at the time and stationed aboard the CG Cutter COMANCHE in Eureka, CA, from May 1976 thu April 1978. I always thought COMANCHE was spelled with two Ms and not just one, that is, until I reported aboard the cutter. I found out then, and it was confirmed by the big "COMANCHE" sign on Hwy 101, the COMANCHE has only one M!

I don't have much on these guys. california documents show they started in September of 62, but they don't list any owners or officers.

            Tom,
Thanks for the reply. My car was built the 1st week of August 1963 so the dealership hadn't been in business very long when the car sold. Anything else you can find will be helpful.
            Thank again,
            Jim
