Don Gilmore-Hayward, Hayward, CA (Zone 6, Dealer 243)

I did all the googling I could. Looks like this dealer got sold to a San Francisco dealer and closed.

Turns out this is 10mins from where I live now and 1 hour from where I got the car, so it didnt go far !

    Darren,
I recently received my shipping data report from NCRS and the original delivery deal was Don Gilmore-Hayward (Zone 6 Dealer Code 243). Too bad their wasn't a chain-of-custody for dealers that we could have contacted. Looks like my trail stops at the dealer and will work backwards from previous owners to establish a chain-of-ownership. Ordering the existence of judging awards was worth the money. Found a previous owner and that he received 2 Chapeter 2nd Flight Awards. Now I can attempt to locate that person and if I am lucky find owners prior and after.

I'm very familiar with this dealer. They were located on Watkins Street in Hayward, CA. Sometime in the early to mid 60's, they were sold to Frank McCullough and became McCullough Chevrolet. Many of the parts in my collection were purchased at McCullough Chevrolet over a period of many years. I purchased a new Camaro there in 1988.

In the mid 90's, the City of Hayward effectively put McCullough out of business by having the redevelopment agency force the sale of the property to the agency. You see, the City wanted the property in order to build a new city hall there and that's exactly what they did. The entire McCullough facility was torn down and city hall now occupies that land. I'm so glad that the State of California finally put all "redevelopment agencies" in this state out-of-business. It was an absolute pleasure to see them go.

I really doubt that any records that may have existed at the time that McCullough closed are still in existence. I think that everything was sold or trashed.

        Joe,
Thanks for the additional info on what became of the Gilmore-Hayward dealership. What a shame. Such history lost due to political interests.
