Does anyone know how Corvettes were shipped from St. Louis in 1969? Did the cars go from St. Louis to the Zone offices and then to the dealers?

Re: Shipping of Corvette from St. Louis plant
Vehicles were normally shipped directly to the ordering dealer. The last division to use Distributors was Cadillac who started direct ship to dealers in 1969. All car divisions in each zone maintained a zone warehouse. Cars were ordered and shipped to the warehouse when allocations were not filled with orders and for cars that were to be used as company cars or vehicles ordered to be used in car shows or special events. In any event, all warehouse vehicles were eventually invoiced to dealers. I was with Pontiac Division but the rules were the same for all divisions. Anyone who tells you that they bought a car directly from the "factory"; don't believe it. As an employee; I could order a car to the warehouse, drive it as a company car then invoice it to a dealer as a "brass hat." I then actually bought the car from the dealer.- Top
