Be Sure That You Aren't Set Up For Automatic Annual Renewal

After taking every precaution against this (did not check the "auto-renewal" box) when I renewed my membership last week, I found that I was set for auto-annual renewal for the next three years.

It took me the better part of two hours to navigate the NCRS renewal area, and to rectify the problem.........IE: eliminate auto-renewal.

Anyone who renewed recently using PayPal should check that PayPal doesn't have a NCRS profile for you authorizing auto renewal annually.

Re: Be Sure That You Aren't Set Up For Automatic Annual Renewal

Hmmm, I thought I did something wrong too. I made sure it wasn't checked, but it still set me up for auto-renewal for 4 years.

I'd guess the intention to set up Auto-Renewal as the default was probably a hiccup by the boys in charge.

So.......to Cancel.........It has to be done in Paypal to cancel this "feature"....

Login, then go to: My Account Settings (via the "Gear"(Tools) button using the new Paypal Shell in the Upper Right screen next to the LOGOUT button)

Under Payment Settings, select "Preapproved Payments" in the lower right area of that screen

Click on the link: National Corvette Restorers Society in the "Merchant: column. It will say Active in the Status column.

In the upper left of the page click: Cancel

After the confirmation, the top of the header should read:

This profile has been canceled and cannot be reactivated. No more recurring payments will be made.

      Done

        Guys,

Automatic renewal is not the default. No automatic renewal is the default. 80% of membership new or renewals are not automatic renewal.

Did you checked the box to see what it did and then unchecked it?

It would be helpful to know your exact steps in what you did.

Re: Be Sure That You Aren't Set Up For Automatic Annual Renewal

Gary, When I did, it was a bit confusing. I first thought "AUTOMATIC RENEWAL" was for just that Cart session and I checked the box. Then I read the.........

"By checking the Accept box your NCRS membership will be automatically renewed and billed annually.Click on the link and log into the Store to cancel your automatic renewal. Your credit card or personal PayPal account will be charged at the then-current membership dues rate unless you cancel renewal 14 days prior to your membership renewal date from the link in the email.
Just click "add this to my cart" button if you would like to join or renew but do not wish to accept automatic renewal."

so I then unchecked it, and went to the cart, then discovered when I got the emails that it still did Auto Renewal.......

So maybe the "Uncheck" button didn't work. I was POSITIVE that the box remained Unchecked when I proceeded.

            Rich,

What browser and version are you using?

Your browser cached the checked box.

Geesh, Really? That's lame if the browser did that, no?

I know there would be yet even more reasons to hate this POS browser !! It's Googledung CHROME Version 37.0.2062.103 m .

So......if that was the case, why does a company like Google with that caliber of technology do stupid things like that with their crap software. I swear that grammar school kids wrote this thing. I hate it but I had to migrate to it from my old unsupported perfectly working browser when all this newfangled SW came out.

                Rich,

Never had Chrome act that way, but I don't use "auto fill" forms either.

Most problems with cache mainly come from older versions of Internet Explorer.

Question - which of the two screenshots below did the cart look like?

Re: Be Sure That You Aren't Set Up For Automatic Annual Renewal

Sorry Gary it was a few days ago and I don't recall.

I just went through a few tests at the Renewal page. I checked the box, went to cart and there was your first screenshot.

I emptied the cart and went back to Renewal again.

Left the box unchecked, went to car, and was like your 2nd screenshot.

Then emptied the cart again and all clear.

So up to those steps in the process it appeared correct. Of course I don't want to proceed and buy it again, so maybe others can that need to renew will try what happened to me and report back.

Re: Be Sure That You Aren't Set Up For Automatic Annual Renewal

I went about it in much the same way as Rich did.
I use Mozilla SeaMonkey browser/email client.
                    Have been for many years.
I eliminated autorenewal at PayPal by deleting NCRS profile, in same way as Rich explained.
I also sent an email to Gary Mortimer to check if I have auto renewal in my account, and if so, to kill it.

The renewal process is confusing and if you're not careful, it's relatively easy to check the auto renew button. If emptying cart and starting over doesn't resolve situation for members, then something ought to be done about it. I HAVE EMPTIED SHOPPING CARTS MANY TIMES BEFORE ON OTHER WEBSITES, AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM SUCH AS THIS!

Contents of shopping cart should read either:

"NCRS renewal with automatic renewal for three more years"

                    or

"NCRS renewal without auto renew feature"

Add a "view shopping cart" button

Highlight "checkout" button and place it farther away from the PayPal button

                      Rich,

Looking forward to working with you to analyze the problem you had and see if you and I can replicate the problem.

Appreciate your help. It's nice for us volunteers to work with someone so helpful and willing to assist in trouble shooting. Regards,

                        Joe, et al........

If there's a bug Gary and the guys will find it. Seems subtle but maybe intermittent too. Those are the toughest ones to find.

Gary and I are going to do a simulated Renewal exercise first thing in the morning to try to replicate it. He'll certainly report back with the news when we're done.

Gary and I worked alot together testing the new Classifieds section. We found a bunch of bugs and he fixed them all up before release. In my past career I always seemed to find the weird bugs in our SW. There used to be a joke around the lunch table.....".....make sure Mozzetta runs that SW before release!"

I've been working with a well known Corvette vendor over a very difficult SW problem on their website for a while now. It's a intermittent problem and driving their IT group to drink. We're all gonna celebrate when that bug is found.

Vendors? We build a lot of the software ourselves, mainly used by the national, regional and chapter officers to register the car awards, judging points, chapter members, national members, deliver the historical document services, online registration process, etc. etc. I think myself, John Wagonner and Gary Chesnut spend on average 3 hours per day on it for the last 5 years...
