    Re: log in problems

Gary, I'm trying out Chrome and it keeps me logged in just like IE used to do. I have no explanation of why this issue only effects the NCRS TDB when using IE.

      Re: log in problems

      Jim,

Believe me, we've been trying to figure that out as well. About a month ago I spent several hours on the phone with a Microsoft Internet Explorer software engineer on IE11 compatibility view mode. The engineer finally admitted the information on their website about how to make compatibility view mode work correctly didn't work. He gave us a solution and we implemented it.

FireFox and IE use the same browser rendering engine Geiko. Funny thing is that FireFox works okay, but IE11 does not.

What's really weird with IE11 is that I've run test after test for days with my Windows 8 laptop running IE11 latest version and it always stays logged in. The current test is about 4 hours old and no problem staying logged in. Close the IE11 window/tab and reopen enter www.forums.ncrs.org/ and wallah I'm still logged in.

Like I said FireFox and Chrome work okay and do not seem to have a problem that IE11 does for some members.

We've even consulted a web consultant and he said we're doing everything correctly.

        Re: log in problems

        Jim,

Technical Discussion Board staying logged in test. Started test Friday 10/10/14 4PM on laptop Windows 8.1 update 1 and IE11 Version 11.0.966.17278, Update Version 11.0.12 - checked Microsoft updates website and all Microsoft software updated with latest updates per Microsoft.

In summary, login stayed intact and did not experience any problems staying logged in to the Technical Discussion Board using Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11.

Note: During the test no other websites were visited nor was Internet Explorer 11 used for anything else during these tests.

Test demonstrates that IE11 will stay logged in if NCRS cookies remain intact and are not changed or deleted.

        Test and Results:
        Date Time Test Results
10/10/14 4PM to 8AM 10/11/14 4PM Logged into TDB Stayed logged in for 20 hours
        10/11/14 8AM to 4PM 8AM Closed TDB IE11 Tab 4PM Opened new IE11 tab www.forums.ncrs.org/ Automatically logged in OK
        10/11/14 4PM to 8AM 10/12/14 4PM Closed IE11 window 8AM Restarted IE11 & opened www.forums.ncrs.org/ Automatically logged in OK

I've had no issues with Chrome so I'll continue using it for the time being. Thanks for all your hard work.

            Re: log in problems

            Jim,

IE and FireFox use the same gecko rendering engines. When they make changes, which can be often, stuff breaks. Very frustrating for us and NCRS members. Especially since we've not changed anything on the website. We get a lot of "worked yesterday, but not today". Tough to explain and resolve.

You might consider changing your IE11 back to factory defaults http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/i...tings#ie=ie-11 and see what that does for you.

Appreciate your support and help. Regards,

            Gary

                Rob,

Interesting find. Shop and Classified work fine without the www, but the forum hangs on the opening screen and just refreshes from time to time. Firefox and IE 11 hang but Chrome just appends the www and goes on fine.

Rob, If that was directed to me, this is the address I used in IE - https://www.forums.ncrs.org/ That's the same one that works fine using Chrome.

                      Hi Jim,

You are using the correct URL so that is not a problem.

Do you also experience the unintended logout issue when you go to our main site (www.ncrs.org, so not the forum site)?

To test: login using the option in the middle at the top (fields Username and Password (see attached screenshot) and tick the Remember Me? tickbox there and press the Log In button. Then go to the forum and test, also close and re-open you browser and go to the forum and check if you are still logged-on. (also for Classified section and the Webshop you should be automatically been logged on now).
