Cookies - main site vs Forum

I've noticed this a long time, but thought I'd finally ask. Using Win 10 with Firefox currently, but it happened on older versions/machines too.

If I'm logged into the forum, which is much of the time, but go to the main site to sign up for an event, place a Driveline ad, or similar I will have to log into each half of the site separately. In addition, when I then come back to the forum (or main site) I'm logged out of it. I assume my computer is only keeping one ncrs.org cookie, and the dual signin is overwriting every time I go back and forth.

Is that what is occurring, or is it something else?

Patrick - have you submitted a HELP TICKET?

BTW - not sure how this site is set-up, but typically if "different" page functionality are NOT linked, then yes you will need to sign-in as the cookie will NOT "transport"

I use Google Chrome and have the same issue. I can get on the technical forum if I visited previously without logging in but if I want to go to another part of the site say a profile page or Coming Event page I have to long on then when I go back to the forum I have to log back in. I thought it was a little strange but just put up with it.

Do you guys check the "Remember Me" tick box?

All I can say is; once I'm logged into one NCRS function, I'm logged into all of them with Chrome browser. Works same with FireFox browser.

            Gary,

I can support what others are saying about not being able to visit another area of the site (events or registration as an example). I must sign in again. This happens using Chrome on iPad or Windows machine, with the remember me box checked. Upon the next visit, after registering for an event, I will need to login again also. The site never remembers me after visiting the registration page.

As far as I know, the site has always functioned like this.

            Regards,

            Dennis

Gary, I have the same problem as Dennis that is why I never bother looking at another section of the site.

No, I've not submitted a help ticket because it is low on my priority list, and only an issue a few times a year. However, based on responses it looks like it is a common problem.

It doesn't save cookies no matter how much you go back and forth. Every time you swap sections of the site, the cookie for the other half is wiped clean. As others note, the easy route is to avoid the other half of the site - or at least avoid signing in to it if you visit.

Re: Cookies - main site vs Forum

I've had the same problem forever too. But just followed Gary's advice and resolved it, in 90 seconds.
I use Chrome browser. I went up to the main Chrome tool bar at top of page, clicked on the word Chrome which dropped down a menu that included Clear Browsing Data that I then clicked. That opened a box that said Obliterate the following items from: [the beginning of time].
the four top choices below that are checked to include browsing history, download history, cookies and other plugin data, cached images and files.
Then I clicked the clear browsing data key at bottom right of the box. That cleared everything. Then I opened NCRS website and logged in, clicking Remember me. Then opened up the Classifieds Forum, and other pages including Coming Events. I was logged into all of them.

                      ps
have to agree with Dennis below. My problem was solved until the next time I refreshed the Classified Ads forum. I had to log in again.
Tried clearing out all Browsing data again, worked initially, then next time I refreshed Classifieds, it made me log in again,

                        Gary,

I have done this many times with no change in behavior. I very recently had it happen on a computer that was wiped clean and the operating system reinstalled. This doesn't appear to be caused by not clearing cache.

If the site should be remembering you from section to section, it doesn't work when visiting the secure areas for me.

                        Dennis

Same here as what Dennis describes. Several computers, no change. It's just "how it works" (or doesn't work) on this site.
I regularly clean out cookies and clean the system with no change in these logins.

                              Yes, I do.
As noted, this has been occurring for a few years at least. I just finally got around to mentioning it.
I suspect there's a box in the coding on the main site or on the forum site that's checked or unchecked, resulting in multiple users having to re-login for each side.
