    Trouble with Discussion Board

Is anyone else having trouble with navigating/signing on to the Discussion Board? It seems now that every "click" takes an extraordinary amount of time to process. Clicking the bookmark or link from the notification email of a posting I posted to produces "Waiting for NCRS.Org" and could take up to a minute to go to the website, and navigating through the site does the same thing. I have no problem with any other website.

No problem with Safari on iPad. (Safari is not preferred browser for discussion board, but seems to be working ok.)

Have you tried throwing away (delete) HISTORY and signing back on?

        Terry and David,
Thanks for the responses. I am using Chrome as my browser. I never had any trouble before. This only started very recently. I will try logging off and logging back on (I never log off normally).

I use Chrome both at the office and at home. At home, the last couple of days has been brutally slow. Here, at the office, no issues whatsoever. Cleared all the cookies and all the normal stuff...nothing worked. Everything else on Chrome, at the house, works just fine.

Having trouble with Chrome. Waiting an extra long time for things to arrive from the NCRS discussion board. No trouble with anything else. Seems to be a problem with the NCRS server. My guess anyway!

Running Firefox with instant response. It's a five year old DELL running Windows 10. I killed Chrome for running too slow, Chrome has a problem of not releasing casch while running thus it consumes lots of memory. I have four tabs open all the time, ebay, NCRS, Google calendar and CNBC. Also Outlook Express for mail.

Thanks for all the responses. It seems that I am not alone in the problem. I will try another browser but I have always liked the way Chrome works (besides, my son is a Google employee). I have no trouble with any other websites and only experienced this very recently. I am guessing that it is problem with the interface of the website server and Chrome?

                      Jeff,

Not the Chrome browser. For some reason all the apps on the NCRS website; TDB, Store, etc. are slower than usual to respond. While the homepage www.ncrs.org responds just fine.

                      I'm investigating.

                        Re: Trouble with Discussion Board

This can be a little technical but when you are having an issue with the site from one location and not another it is probably with path to the server.

You can test this if you wish.

From the location giving you trouble open a Command window. Old DOS prompt, if you have been around a while. If not, click on the search icon beside the Window icon at the bottom left corner of the screen. Type CMD, you will see the Command Prompt program show up at or near the top.

Click it to open the Command Window. Type "tracert ncrs.org" after the command prompt, C:'\Users\name>

You will then have a list generated of every hop your request goes through from your computer to the server.

As you can see the request timed out on several hops along the route from here to there. Every Internet Service Provider starts off from a different point and bounces the request from different hops along the path. When a request times out it is forwarded to another hop to see if the connection can be made from there. That is what provides the redundancy of the internet. Unless your location is obliterated by a nuclear blast the internet will bounce around until if finds a path around a damaged connection.

Now run tracert the same way from your computer at work, or from an open Wifi location at Starbucks or McDonalds and compare your results.

The results don't really care what browser you use.

The Internet Traffic Report can also give you some clues... currently, I see over a dozen major hops dead.
With servers and apps/scripts in all different locations, pulling everything together can sometimes be problematic.
People are spoiled with their current speeds... as a few of us can still make the sounds of a 14K dial-up modem.
