Am I the only person having problems staying logged in??

Using Windows 10 professional and Google Chrome 67.0.3396.87 (64 bit), each time I go to the web site, I have to log in again, even if I check the box that says stay logged in.

I also tried it with Firefox and IE, and the same thing happens so it's not cookies, etc...

Am I the only one having this problem?

Re: Am I the only person having problems staying logged in??

Well darn. I was hoping it was the site and not my ISP. I've had issues before with my ISP but not like this. The last time, when I submitted a question or replied to a question and had to edit my post, for some reason my ISP identified the NCRS site as questionable and they blocked it!! After 3 or 4 hours on the phone talking to multiple IT people at Verizon (now Frontier), they finally figured it out and was able to unblock it.

At least with THIS "problem", I can still log in and participate!

      Thanks Leif.

        Leif,

The only thing that affects your logging in or not logging in is your cookie. You may have a setting to block cookies in your security software or something since it is doing it with both browsers. You can check your cookie in each browser by going to https://www.forums.ncrs.org/register/getCookie.php

It should look somewhat like this:

        Display Cookie Script VBulletin:
        vb_lastvisit : 1517765871 (02-04-2018 12:37:51)
        vb_lastactivity: 0 (12-31-1969 19:00:00)
        vb_userid : 1
        vb_password : xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

        Customization:
        vb_userid: 1 (John Waggoner)
        pvb_visitdate: 1529759729 (06-23-2018 09:15:29)

If it doesn't look similar to this, then just delete the cookie by going to https://www.forums.ncrs.org/register/ResetCookie.php

This will delete your cookie completely. Now go back and log in and select Remember Me! That will create a new fresh cookie that should work for a while.

You're not the only one. I started having the same issues yesterday. I have to log in everytime and my cookie looks exactly like the above example.

Ok John, my cookies looked like yours, but I went ahead and cleared them anyway (Chrome, IE and Firefox), but I'm still having problems in all three browsers. I just can't stay logged in!

Jim, thanks for the confirmation. Glad I'm NOT the only one having this problem. What ISP do you have?

I'm using Chrome. I deleted my cookie and had a heck of a time trying to log in. It would say "you'll be directed to the page in 10 seconds" but it never happened and then all links would quit working. I backed out, went to the NCRS store and then was allowed to go the TDB and was able to log in again. We'll see if it works.

                Ed,

Do you get logged out while your are using the Tech Board or just when you leave and come back? Some ISP's cache pages so they can deliver them faster and that might be the issue. I guess when they send you the page from their cache our server can't query to see if your cookie shows you logged in.

Waggoner's rule of thumb when you have Internet problems:
                  1) clear cache and browser history
                  2) try another browser
                  3) reboot PC
                  4) try another PC

Jim, who's you Internet Service Provider? Mine's Verizon/Frontier.

I have the same problem as Jim. It says it's going to redirect me, but it never does. It looks like it tries, but just comes back to the same page over and over again. However, if I click on the NCRS Webstore link, then the Services link, I can get to the Tech page from there and I DON'T have to log in!!

                    Gary:

                    1) clear cache and browser history - Done, didn't help
                    2) try another browser - Done, didn't help
                    3) reboot PC - Done, didn't help
                    4) try another PC - Done, didn't help!! (I even tried to log in after attaching to my company's VPN but that didn't help either)

It has to be something with either our log in profiles or our ISP's. I vote ISP since I've had similar problems in the past. If Jim's ISP is also Verizon or Frontier, I think we have it nailed.

                      Ed,

Frontier/Verizon are infamous for their multiple layers of caching servers. It's a big known problem and especially problematic for the NCRS National Judging Chairman.

Wht URL are you entering or what exactly are you doing, please explain step-by-step when "I have the same problem as Jim. It says it's going to redirect me" this happens?

Ed, I'm with Comcast. I reset my cookie and did everything you did as well. The problem still exists. I have to log in every time I visit. This started yesterday and there have been no changes in my computer.

I don't know if this might help or not but these providers may be using their own DNS servers. That way they can point you to the cached pages.

Lets try changing your DNS settings on your computer.

First right click on your network icon in the lower right corner of your screen. It should look like one of these depending on whether you are wired or wirelss.

When you click on it select "Open Network and Internet Settings". Your settings window will open up. You want to select "Change adapter options" below the heading "Change your network settings".

That will open a window with your network adapters showing. You may have Bluetooth, Ethernet and Wireless showing. Click on the one that doesn't have a red X on it. That is the active adapter. Above there select "Change settings of this adapter". This box should open up.

Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties when it is highlighted. This window will pop up.

Change your Preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8
                          and your alternate to 208.67.220.220

                          Then click on OK.

I don't know for sure this will help but it will let you access a couple of open DNS servers that do a good job of keeping things moving.

If it doesn't help and you want to go back just follow the same instructions and click on Obtain DNS server address automatically. That will revert back to the one your ISP provides.

From there I can just click SERVICES, then TECHNICAL DISCUSSION BOARD and it takes me in.
