User Testing Challenge for members - we need your help in determining what exact steps cause the login name to change
from:
Welcome, Gary Chesnut (5895), log out of the NCRS website

to:
Welcome, Gary C., log out of the NCRS website

Please list what you did step-by-step to change from proper login name & Remember me box ticked to first name last initial

I use Autofill so I do not have a name change problem. But, I do have to login many times a day.

The login name change occurs when you move around the forum.

As you move around the forum, from the Support Forum to the Technical Forum & from Thread to Thread - every time you move to something new, please check to see if the login name changed to first name & last initial

Gary, I went to upcoming events and is just says "Welcome Harry" no last initial.

Gary- I noticed a glitch yesterday that may be related (or maybe not).
I had different looks in different browsers I was testing... one anomaly appeared as follows:

Notice that UNREAD posts listed only partial names (with no membership number)...
While threads that had already been READ, had the full user name and number.

Possible guess... was this part of the script that truncates names/numbers, if you aren't logged on?
If so, was the logon name glitch somehow working in conjunction with that custom script?

Crawling back into my hole... and THANX for all your hard work!

1) clicked on Services in Discussion Board menu
2) Services menu click on ...
Please provide specifics.

Gary- Just tried surfing to a few different areas. Prior to the server upgrade, my Firefox logon was ONLY good in ONE area. For example: Previously, if I was logged on the the TDB (with a REMEMBER ME) and tried to access the latest Driveline or Restorer, I needed to logon again... in order to view those publications.

That second logon would negate my initial logon... meaning, the next time I tried to enter the TDB, I would NOT be automatically logged on (even though I had NEVER logged off via a button).

Years ago, I think I discussed this issue with John... figuring it might be my old Firefox browser. We also discussed the number of 'cookies' a browser could retain... depending on directory structure.

Just now, I logged on to the TDB... it showed my FULL name and membership number.
Surfed over to SERVICES... just a 'Welcome Jack'.
Same thing at PUBLICATIONS (Welcome Jack)... but now I did NOT need to logon to view the latest Restorer.
At the C1 Store... a little different, with NO NAME at all (just 'Log out of NCRS')
Back at the TDB... FULL logon info (full name and number).

IIRC the ncrs.org related pages login username box has always been just first name.

Login Boxes after logging in (per my questionable CRS):
1) Discussion Board = Welcome First Name Last Name (NCRS #), logout of the NCRS website
2) Store = Logout of NCRS - No Name Displayed
3) ncrs.org pages = Welcome First Name, logout of the NCRS website
4) Classified - Welcome, logout of the NCRS website

Problem we're looking for to recreate is when the Discussion Board login box shows Welcome Gary C. after you've logged in and moved around the forum or... Need to figure out what creates that problem. Came close this morning, but couldn't replicate consistantly.

As I said, I use AUTOFILL and that may override the Harry S problem.

Was able to recreate the sequence to change login name from: First Name Last Name (NCRS#)... to: First Name Last Initial

Steps:
1) login with Remember Me box checked
2) went to a thread (this one)
3) made reply
4) deleted reply (Admin function only)
5) had to re-enter password to confirm delete (Admin function only)
6) login changed to First Name Last initial

Would like y'all to share any other conditions that changes the login name in the Discussion Board

Gary- Not sure if this will help... I can't recall if this is typical. Just a observation (mainly regarding COOKIES):

Currently, after a return to the forum, I'm NOT logged in (even though I had checked 'Remember Me').
I know this is an existing issue, but I wonder if this look was TYPICAL in the past.
Looking at this image, I'm NOT logged on, but I can see FULL user names and membership numbers.


If I were to LOG OUT, close the browser, and then return... I'm still not logged on.
But now, I no longer see FULL names... I just see the First Name & Last Initial:


If I were to use a PRIVATE window (with NO COOKIES)... I get the same look as previous image:


NOTE: Before these tests, I had cleared all my NCRS Cookies... both with your link, and manually.
If this was not typical in the past, or not intended... perhaps the Cookies need attention.

Rob seems to have resolved the Cookies problem. Something was corrupting the session cookie at times when you went to another page.

The images I posted last don't seem to be present... since the look persists, I'll try redoing it again.
(I manually deleted ALL NCRS COOKIES, prior to testing it just now.)
