Re: Misoriented, Sideways, Upside Down Photos Upload - A MS PC Workaround

After doing more research via some RV and Car Forums using vBulletin and the vBulletin forum itself, I did some experiments in the Test Forum.... HERE

    Interesting....

Quote from above..... "When your photos exceed the max horizontal width or vertical height, vBulletin will rotate them to fit those dimensions."

    Ours is 800W x 600H

Re: Misoriented, Sideways, Upside Down Photos Upload - A MS PC Workaround

It appears I've discovered why this PC workaround works.....

After Windows 7, the MS photo viewer(and likely MAC s/w around that same time) uses EXIF Orientation data to display the photo oriented properly. It modifies the orientation attribute so that it is saved in its EXIF data, so when it's uploaded here it is in its correct orientation.

Also, due to vBulletin constraints of our 800W x 600H file size limit, and since vBulletin does not use EXIF data, a improperly oriented original photo, even though appearing on a PC or MAC looks properly oriented, will upload mis-oriented here.

      Full explanation here....

      https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...EXIF-Education

Additionally, we seem to be not alone as other vBulletin based forums have similar issues. However, the corvetteforum.com site does NOT have this issue. A photo example I upload here as a test and which uploads sideways here, does NOT upload sideways there on CF. It either autocorrects the orientation using EXIF, or they've made some other form of modification to their s/w to correct it.

We use version 4.2.5. CF version unknown as it's not displayed on their site any longer. I've made a request to their Admin to let me know which version they're using. It may be a factor.

The latest vBulletin version is 5.7.1 according to their site.

Re: Misoriented, Sideways, Upside Down Photos Upload - A MS PC Workaround

I got a answer from the CF Admin....

"We use a custom forked version of vBulletin 3.9, which we've then further augmented with a custom image hosting/uploading tool among other things. ....."
