    Image Orientation

I'm a fairly technical person. When uploading images to be posted, it seems like the image orientation is random. For example, a portrait uploads as landscape. I tried tricking the site by changing the orientation on the source image but still remained landscaped.

I've had success in the past without any issues.

    suggestions?

    Thomas,

Smart phones are sometimes too smart. They decide what the orientation of your photo should be.

Turn off "auto rotation" on your smart phone. Then the photos will be uploaded in the orientation you took them with.

Lots of articles on the Internet about smart phone photos Auto Rotate.

The photo rotation is caused by the EXIF metadata included in the digital photo file.

You can check the EXIF metadata image orientation in Windows by right clicking on a digital photo file, select Properties and then open Details. Dimensions will show the digital photo orientation.

Dimensions - Horizontal side on the left and vertical side is on the right.

      Re: Image Orientation

The photos were sent to me. I figured out if you go into the meta-data, (file attributes) and clear out all the personal info, you can then edit the file and save it with the correct orientation. At that point the meta-data retains your edit. The key is to get rid of the personal information in the meta-data because if you don't the edits won't change anything.
