Searching for Local Members

In the member list, is there a way to search and/or sort by city or zip code? I know I can do an advance search by state, which yields 663 names for Texas, but I'd like to know who is more local to me.

If this isn't currently supported, would it be easy to add this function?

Secondly, is there a way to access or build an email list of the folks in a search result so we can communicate with each other? An example use would be to ask for/share referrals for shops in the area, organize get togethers,...

Mark, we don't share user information between members. The Private Message function allows someone to contact another member without revealing their personal information.

No. We can't do that and maintain members privacy. Lots of vendors would love to be able to harvest email addresses or contact information from our membership database.

To clarify, NCRS feels it's okay for me to search members by state, but searching by city or zip is a privacy issue?

You are not a chapter officer, so I am curious about how you could search for members by state?

In order for chapters to attract members and communicate with their members certain chapter officers do have enhanced ability to search.

Per our Privacy Policy: "It is against NCRS Policy to share or sell members personal information."

I can view the list of 663 Texas members using the "state" field in "advanced search" on the Member List.

But Texas is a big place, and I would like to view members in Dallas. Members in other towns may want to do this also. Other clubs (for example, Cadillac LaSalle, Pontiac Oakland) encourage this as a way to engage members locally.

You can search on state, but the information you get only includes their state and name. If you wish to contact them you can send a private message through the Technical Discussion Board.

Without their address, email address or phone number you can't build a marketing list to sell them snake oil. Bot's comb the internet looking for ways to harvest peoples personal contact information to sell to marketers and telemarketers. We do everything possible to protect our members from those bots.

As a Chapter Member you can meet lots of other members and get to know them. Your chapter may also provide you with names of members close to you if their privacy policy is different.
