    searching archives

Trying to search archives with terms like "396" or "L78" and get an error message that one needs 4 letter words to search. I am wondering if you should allow 3 letter word to enable targeted search strings with engine size and option codes?? I can think of plenty of 4 letter words that really do not help my search

Thanks for all the effort to get the new site up!

Rob, FYI - there's a FAQ on searching with 3 letters. Have to use * wildcard. Enjoy, Gary....

I think this work around leaves a lot to be desired. The wildcard provides quite a bit of non-relevant material in the search results. I understand the need to limit server load, but I sure would like to search on 2 digit model year, engine size and option code. I think many of the posts are written with these terms.

I will keep working the system to find what I need but hope that we can get enough server power to enable short word searches in the future.

All in all a great site and much improved. Thank you to all who have worked hard to deliver it

        Re: searching archives

I am really having trouble getting the search function to work very well at all. Yes it is fast, but fast to provide unrelated postings. The FAQ shows that you can search for multiple words such as WORD1 and WORD2 simply by typing both words in the search box with a space inbetween. That seems to search for WORD1 OR WORD2, which is not the same. I have tried using a "+" sign in front of each work like some similar forums use but that doesn't seem to work either.

Also, if I want to search for all threads with the words "warm" and "up" both appearing in them, how would I do that???? I can't get it to work.

"warm up" is a phrase. Put a phrase between the "" marks.

            Re: searching archives

Help --- anyone. I cannot do a search (get zero results). Trying to find a thread I started on 3 March 2006. The title reads (in part) "incredible reincarnation" without the quotations. Surely this is a unique enough search term. I selected archives, 1 year and older, posts only. User name is Wayne Midkiff (3437) although all my posts prior to switching to this new board used lower case instead of caps for first name and surname.

I can't even find an archive post by Joe Lucia, using "brakes" as a keyword, for crying out loud.

What am I doing wrong ?

              Wayne ,

I wish I could help , but I am as stumped as you are .
According to this new board I have never posted anything before now . Thus there is nothing in the archives .

As for the four letter deal....I quess all posts titled " 65 A/C or 70
              LT1" , 427 help , 67 p/s pulley ....are gone forever !

              There is this though !!!

Let me know if you get anywhere or hear anything that helps,

Try *70%LT1* for 70 LT1's, don't hasitate to play a little with the search function. You'll soon get the hang of it... You might want to limit your search to titles only.

                greetings,
                Rob.

                    Jim,

Searching for the posters name in the archives is a problem we are aware of. Since those names don't match any User Names from this board, they are not considered User Names. They are also not contained in the body of the posts. They are out in cyberspace. Notice in the archives when you open a thread each post is by Guest. When you open the post the person who wrote it is listed, but they are not in the User Name field.

We are working on this issue also. Stay tuned, but don't expect it real soon.

                      John,

                      I don't envy you your task !

I also don't mean to be the "old guy" that hates change. As a matter of fact, It seems to me that this is ,and will be , much better than the old forum , once you get all the bugs out , and I fiqure out how to work it !

Good Luck, and thanks for the reply. It at least lets me know that I am not a (COMPLETE ) Idiot when it comes to computers.

                      Your Half Idiot,

I was using "warm up" as an example. Imagine any other words that you might want to search for, where one of them is only two letters, that is not a phrase.
