    Large Picture vs. Thumbnail

How does one post a larger picture than a thumbnail? I'm really feeling my way through this stuff so a detailed explanation would be great. Thanks.

I think you have to do it the old way by inserting an image link url from an image site. Hit the insert image icon above and insert the url like you used to do at the bottom of the page of the old board. Here's a try:

Or you can upload the pkoto first to the NCRS site, either from your computer or the image site (See Manage Attachments). Then click on the image link, copy and paste the NCRS link into the message:

      https://www.forums.ncrs.org/attachme...1&d=1204480238

or insert it as an image using the insert image icon. Pretty slick:

Where is the image insert icon located?

          Joseph,

          And everyone else too.

There is a section of the FAQ that deals with images and how to include them. Read it before you ask a lot of questions here.

Word of caution though about including links like you did on the old forum. If the photo goes away from the link it is gone. If you upload it to our server it will stay with this message and your grand kids will be seeing it some day. Or for some of us our Great Grandkids. When you attach a picture to the message only a thumbnail shows up. Click on the thumbnail and low and behold it opens up in a completely new window in full size. This cuts down on server load and makes the threads appear faster.

Again Read the FAQ for details, and then if you have particular questions about the process indeed post them here and we will answer them and maybe include some of them in the FAQ.

            Joe,

When you reply or compose a new post, it is in the first row of icons just above where you are writing, fifth one left from the last one on the right. You can rest your pointer on it, and the icon description should pop up.

The insert image icon allows you to insert an image link at the bottom of the post just like the old forum. The link could be from an outside image site or from the NCRS site which was previously uploaded.

If you want to preserve the image on the NCRS site, you need to upload it via "Manage Attachments" below the screen you are writing on. You can upload from your computer or from your image site. Once uploaded, it puts the thumbnail at the bottom of the post.

If you then want the full size of the thumbnail at the bottom of the post, click on the thumbnail, copy the link at the top, and then paste it with the insert image icon. For multiple images, you can past the links right in the text, or let the reader just click on the thumbnails.

If you don't want to preserve the image on the NCRS site, don't upload it. Just copy and paste the image link from your image sight either with the insert image or directly in the text. However, if you erase it from your image site, it will be lost forever.

Hope this helps, I'm not an expert on this, just a trial and error guy. See John's post.

I think they did a real good job on this new format and in establishing a photo archive with direct uploading. I think this is what we wanted some time ago; you no longer need an image site.

Note: I've wrote a script this weekend to import all images still out on the web into the forum so these will be captured and safed for our future use. Intentially I wrote this to proces the archive but there is no reason to not run it periodically against the other forums to import the images posted there into our database as well...

              regards,
              Rob.
