    I hate CHANGE

maybe because Iam computer illiterate, I have to say someone did a LOT!!!!! of work making this new board. Iam sure some people love it because there computer wizzes. But I hate it, the old board was so easy for me, I would just scroll down and look and everything was in the order it came in on one big page. But maybe now I can figure out how to post a photo Phil 8063

I'm no computer wizard, believe me, but I like the new format. Alot more user friendly. Once you get use to it you will like it.

      Phil,
I'm with you. Some of the new site is an improvement, but if I had a choice, I would vote to go back to the old one. I spend a lot less time here than I used to. I wonder if the administrator watches the number of posts per day. The old system averaged about 110 on week days.

Try this and see if you like it. Go to (Edit Options) on the first page left side. Go to the section (Thread Display). Change it to (Linear- Oldest First).
This is more like the way I viewed the old board.

I agree with you this new format has a very surgical feeling its as though we are reading a service manual for an x ray machine.

The first step is to say to yourself "I liked it better over 'there'! BUT...Now the bridge is burned...GOT TO GO FORWARD!"

The next thing you must figure out is which forum view mode or appearance is closest to what you were using on the old TDB.

I think I was using the default or threaded mode over on the old TDB. For ME the Hybrid mode is closest to the appearance of the old TDB, only it's in two pages instead of one: the first index page here in Hybrid mode is the top index frame of the old TDB, and the second page here shows the thread outline at the top, and several individual posts in frames below...the difference is here you don't have to keep clicking back and forth if you are comparing two posters comments.

Click on the tab at the right hand corner that says Display Modes and try each of the three from the drop down menu. Linear mode will show all of the posts made in chronological order...if posters don't recognize the need to use the "QUOTE" button when responding to a specific comment, it will become very hard to keep it all straight in linear mode.

Otherwise, it's pretty much the same, but with many more features like the photo posting you mentioned. If you want to cut, copy, or delete inside a post, this software doesn't use the right click to get the menu...you'll have to click on your browser's "Edit" tab for the menu after highlighting the desired text in the post.

It is human nature to not be comfortable with change, especially as we age, but in this case the change is good. As mentioned above, if you change the "Display Mode", you may feel better about the new format.

The default Display Mode is "Threaded Mode" but I found it much easier to read by changing to "Linear Mode". For me, this is the same as clicking on "View All" on the old board if you want to look at everything written about a particular subject in one window by simply scrolling down.

                Re: I hate CHANGE

I still liked the old method of reading posts and having them instantly indicate they were read. Here I've tried going back to the beginning after reading a thread only to have it make no difference on some and closes the book on others. I enjoy reading all posts, whether related to my years, or not.

Also, the spell check feature over rides perfectly good english, somehow not liking certain words that make perfect sense. (See my post regarding 1969 427/435 Intake Manifold overspray.)

                  Kent,

if you go to the main forum page where you begin, there is a pull down menu for FORUM TOOLS - click on that and a pull down that you then click is SHOW FORUM READ or something like that - it will clear all the Forum messages as being read and then you can just refresh the next time you return and you will only see NEW MESSAGES POSTED since the last time you visisted - get in the habit of doing that each time you visit

I like the new forum. It is a lot different, but I think we have a much more powerful tool at our disposal now. I especially like Chuck Sangerhausen's new photo

I'm 63, I got my first computer in 2006. Learning how to do things (like post pictures) is very difficult for me . People like Gary Chestnut and Patrick Hulst have been VERY good about guiding me when I've asked for help. I'm now having way too good a time thanks to many people's efforts and computer knowledge.
                      Regards,
                      Alan
