Sorry I'm lost here and ready to give up

Reading this new forum to me is not as easy as the old one. Too hard to tell if some one replied to a question I posted and I have to scroll through them all to see if some one I (know) left a replie , or if a post had some one I (know) replie to some other posting.
In the old forum you saw all the new replies and names (easy )but here you must remember the number of replies to see if more numbers were added and still don't know who did!.
So I see myself posting and looking fare less then before till I just give up , but may be that's good because I'm so full of BS. Can I be the only one , to old , to dumb, or just move on?

What "Display Mode" are you in?

OK, Roy, I'm going to send you an email; be on the lookout for it

Click on "Hybrid Mode"...most like the old TDB (default) with better features. Oldest first means you're in Linear Mode...that means all the posts are jumbled up together; unless the poster uses the "Quote" button, you don't know who's responding to whom. For simple subjects discussed on other forums, the linear mode will work fine; when it starts getting technical here, you'll be lost in Linear Mode.

        You have mail.

Don't give up quite yet Roy, you're not the only one experiencing problems navigating through these channels! Unlike you, I'm not even confident enough yet to post pictures whereas you are a master at it!

          Best regards

            Roy,

You don't know me, but I've become fond of your posts of rare parts and accessories, as well as your comments. Long before I knew what NCRS was, I looked at VetteHeads and hated its format. Now NCRS has the same format. I've had nothing but trouble with the new format, from originally signing on (it said I wasn't a member, but of course I am) to trying to find a 'Display Mode' that works. Everyone has been great with their offers to help, but it's not working.

When I log on, I see only 4-5 new posts a day; I know there must be much more than this, so I'm missing almost all of what I'm here for--knowledge and sharing information. The new format may be a techie's dream come true, but it's just garbage to me, unneccessary garbage because there wasn't anything wrong with the old format; it was simple, friendly, and got the job done well.

Yes, I'm old, but computers were invented to make tasks easier, faster, and more efficient; now, it seems that we have a lot of 'change for the sake of change', which is cute but it misses the point. Plus, aren't emoticons a little trite, if not childish? I, for one, don't need a smiley face to make a point or an icon for my year Corvette to ask a question; I would just ask a specific question and identify what year I'm asking about. Is that too hard for anyone to do? I want my computer to make me smarter, not dumber and lazier.

Sorry for the length of this response. I mean nothing critical of anyone, particularly of NCRS as a whole, but I just don't get the point here.

Larry !! Like Bert and Chuck said, go to Display Modes click on (Hybrid Mode) then move to (Quick Links) click on (todays post ). Then under your control panel look for (number of post per page) to add more postings.

Re: Sorry I'm lost here and ready to give up

Roy, Here's a one step process to get at only the NEW Posts since your last visit...just copy it and paste it into your "Favorite" shortcut for the Tech board. https://www.forums.ncrs.org/search.php?do=getdaily

Assuming your using Internet Explorer, highlight and copy the above shortcut, then under your Browsers Favorities right click your NCRS Favorite and click Properties. You will see at the top of the pop-up window the current shortcut for the Tech Board. Now Paste the above shortcut in its place and click Apply. Now when you click the NCRS Tech Board Favorite your Browser will open with a window saying "Redirecting...your search is being retreived..." In a second or so you will see only the New Posts for Today and when you scroll down or to the next page, depending on how many New Postings there are, you will see a break in the listing of the postings with this message...
"The threads below have not been updated since your last visit or since forums have been marked read."
All the Posts below this message have not changed or received any new replies since your last visit.

To get email notification of updates/replies to your posts or new posts to your replies to other posts, click User Profile on the Menu at the top of any page. On the left side of the Profile Page is the Control Panel - click Edit Options. Under the Messaging & Notification - Default Thread Subscription Section make sure it is set to receive email notifications in the Default Thread Subscription Mode.

Afterwards when you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you will automatically have that thread added to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread.

                      Hope this helps,
                      Bob

You know Roy it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks and I am old. I have found this forum a little tricky but far improved and I mean far improved over the old one. I was reluctant to change but the last couple of years I enjoy it. I mean trading the brunette in for the blond was a big change for sure.
Luckily I will be able to edit that statement out shortly. I mean just the fact that we can edit our typos and crude stuff is a plus in itself. THis forum is not lacking anything. You just have to study it for all the benefits. The smiles, icons golore, and look at the top of the page I am typing on. It's like microsoft word now. No I think it's gonna be wonderful.Hang in there. I mean its soo easy to shout to someone now. I lilke the fact we can clilck on the different years we are talking about. So many old posts guys write in with dumb questions like I do and we don't even have a clue if its a 55 or a 75. JD

I think Dennis means he doesn't enjoy threads that TALK about USING the TDB! What he really enjoys are threads about old Corvettes, not to mention pictures of quaint old genuine GM accessores that were available through dealers back in the day.
