    Private Message issues

Twice now I have been notified via email of PMs from this forum, without there being any messages in my PM box over here. The context of the messages made it clear they were intended for me, but I only got the email.

Seems like the lights are on, but no one is home.

Am I alone with this issue?

    Terry,

I checked and you do have three PM in your inbox. As admin I can see the totals, but not the content.

I get a fair number of PM's and they seem to be working for me. I will send you another to see if your count in your inbox goes up by one.

The new system is kinda/sorta a PITA... PM's are sent to us and we see/read the content with our email composers, but we're unable to directly reply to the sender.

Soooooo, it's a matter of deep-six the email composer, open the web browser, navigate to the DB, log in, and click on the PM button. The old system was a LOT more efficient by allowing direct member-to-member communication after the first contact.

Is there some reason why we need to be in the business of storing and forwarding umpteen jillion off-board conversations?

Holey Sh*t do you mean that our PRIVATE MESSAGES can/are being read by someone OTHER that the person it is sent to. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING US. FOR SHAME,FOR SHAME!

No Atruro, your messages cannot be read by anyone else. The administrator can see the number of messages you have but not the content

            Re: Private Message issues

John may think I have three PMs, but only one showed up -- the one from John W, himself. The other two, while I got email notification that they came in, don't show in my PM box.

            The mystery continues.

BTW: I don’t care who reads my mail – I have nothing to hide, but it does tug at the term PRIVATE message. My boss knows every keystroke I make here at work, if she wants to find out. If I worried about that kind of stuff I would be bald instead of gray, but I am pleased to know that there are some folks who DO care about my privacy.

Dickie's correct! Nobody is reading our private mail except sender/recepient. I was simply 'sounding off' about the overhead associated with receiving a store & forwarded message, then having to log back onto the DB site to reply and use the site's email composer versus what's on my computer for making replies (Outlook + MS Word)....

Thanks Dickie for the clarification. My mistake, the first one I have made today....... I think, was to "assume" that Jack was talking from an administrators position.

Like you Terry, I really don't care if someone reads my messages because I rarely say something that I don't want my boss to read. BUT when it says PRIVATE, it should be PRIVATE, NOT SEMI-PRIVATE.

                  Re: Private Message issues

Private Message's are private. As the Administrator I can see the PM activity to see if it is being used or not. I don't have direct access to read the Messages. That is not to say that you should pass any State Secrets by PM. If the server were confiscated by Homeland Security I am sure they could figure out how to read the messages.

Please don't reply to the Email Notification of Private Messages, or Thread Notifications. I get a few of those a day that come to me.

Private messages do come with the return address of the sender if you would prefer to reply that way, unless the sender has opted out of allowing members to email them.

                    Re: Private Message issues

I just got email notification of another PM -- but there is no new message in my PM box. I have read all that are there. John, aparently you can see messages in my box that I can not.
