    Question regarding Tech Board navigation

    Hello All:

When I log on to scan the latest postings, sometimes I click on a posting and then decide to post a response. After posting my response, my browser redirects to the posting I just made. However, the "back" button of my browser does not return me to the list I was reading prior to posting a response. I get stuck in an infinite loop associated with posting a response.

So, every time I post a response, I have to exit the tech board and come back in the front door, starting over at the beginning of the list of posts.

This is tedious and it creates a disincentive for responding to posts.

Do others on the tech board have this problem or know how to get around it?

I re-click on 'new posts', but it can be annoying (not to return to the original list you were viewing when you decided to post a reply in a particular thread) because you see any new posts that came in while you were off posting the reply and often forget where in (*&& you were....

I guess I don't understand why the DB default is to take you to the post you just made???? There was ample opportunity to preview and edit the post before you submitted it!!!

Unfortunately the forum software doesn't have another option available. Like Jack said click on "new posts" or "today's posts" or the NCRS Technical Discussion Board forum header at the top of the page. Gary....

Joe, just keep clicking the back button. It may take 2, 3, or 4 back button clicks, but it will eventually take you back to the list of postings. The number of back clicks depends on what you did (created a response, reviewed your response, etc.) after you left the posting board. Technically I don't know what causes the need for multiple back clicks, I just know it works.

If you hit the little pen on the right bottom of the post you want to reply to then you can go back the way you want to where you started. If you hit (reply) you need to start over. I ask John about this at Novi and he may find a solution.

            Joe,

Try the Forum Jump button on the bottom of the page. Brings you right back up to the top of the page of the Technical Discussion Board, and your reply will be at the top.

Pretty handy, I use it all the time.

Lyle, just where do you see a "reply" button on the post that you want to reply to? Do you mean Submit Reply.......AFTER you have written your reply?

BTW I use either the pen and paper icon or the quote button icon to start my reply and STILL use the multiple back buttons to return to the post listing after I have submitted my reply.

                Art, same problem.
After submitting your reply and your reply re-appears try a DOUBLE CLICK then single clicks with return you to the thread.
                Works for me.

                  Hi Jerry:

Okay, this at least gets me back to the listing of posts with a single click, but it does not return me to point where I exited. For example, if I was on page 4 of the listing summary when I decided to post a reponse, I would prefer to return to where I left off. The old TDB software did exactly that.

At least your method reduces my frustration factor when posting responses, but maybe there is a complete fix that can be put on a list of future upgrades.

                    Joe,

I think what it is, is that as soon as you post a reply, the thread changes position on the web page and goes to the top of the first page. If you hit the back button, you are going back in the memory of your computer to find the thread on the web page before you made the reply. It is no longer in the same position.

What do I know! Makes sense to me, but I'm only a Civil.

I usally read all the posts on a subject before I reply so I know what others have said on the subject. If you post (Quick Reply)on the lower right of the post inside the box it will return you to where you was by using the back arrow.
I was using the (Post Reply) outside the box of last post on the bottom left and then when I was done and posted the back button will not return you to the place you was.
On the other site many of us use you can go back to the spot you was using (Post Reply) so it is no problem just different.
