How to undo "Mark forums read"

In trying to figure out a way to save threads, I accidentally clicked on "Mark forums read" in Quick Links. How do I undo this?

Also, is there a way to save threads that contain diagrams, pictures, etc. for future fererence? My 'search' abilities don't always pay off. Thank you.

    Larry,

I convert anything I want to save to pdf. Click on the number of the message you want & it will open it its own window. There are several conversion utilities available, (I use Primopdf) and all I do then is print the document to pdf.

    Regards,

    Dennis

      Larry,

Yes you can save threads. Unlike the Old Tech Board this one is really pretty elegant.

Find the Thread that you want to save. At the top of the Thread you will find a Menu Item called Thread Tools. Click on it and a drop down menu will show up. Select the first item. Show Printable Version.

Now you have a pretty clean version of everything in the thread. Go to your browsers File menu. Select Save Page As: The Save File box will open. Select where you would like to save the threads you need to find later. I suggest in your My Documents directory.

Create a folder NCRS TDB or something similar. Next create a folder for Paint, Brakes, Fuel Injection, or whatever subject the thread is about. Next rename the file from printthread.php to Subject.doc (subject being something that will help you find the file when you need it). Be sure and give it a .doc extension and then Save.

You can now open the file in Word, or Openoffice or Wordperfect print it or whatever Pictures included.

If you use Google Desktop or Windows Desktop Search either program will index everything in your My Documents Directory and you can do a search from your desktop of all files that contain the item that you want to search on.

I hope this helps. I am glad you asked the question because I had not researched this subject. Anyone who would like to polish the explanation if it is not clear enough help me out. After it is clear I will put this in the FAQ.

Thank you. But how do I undo the "Mark forums read"? I'm really mad at myself for clicking that because no thread title is in bold type now.

          Larry,

You might be able to do it by deleting your cookie and then coming back and setting a new cookie. You will need to be able to log in when you come back. That means you will need to know your Username: Larry Spencer (47114) and your password: ????????????

Deleting your cookie will clear all of your cookie based selections. You will be back to the default Display Thread Mode, and a few other things. It isn't as clean as just backing up from the Mark Forums Read but it should help some. It will now show none of the Forums as read which may be just as bad.

FYI, I can tell you that when I "lose my cookie" and log in again, I'm brought back to the exact same settings and read/unread posts as the last time I viewed. In fact, it keeps track no matter which computer - of several - I'm on.

              Patrick,

Thanks for the information. I didn't realize that the read/unread posts would be stored in the database rather than in the cookie.

              Larry,

I hope you read this information before you deleted your cookie.
