    Judging Point Recognition UPDATE!

    All,

The Judging Points are now turned on (see also thread https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthread.php?t=72594). Please understand that we have not been running this system for a FULL YEAR. The system will one year from now show your points as well all of the events where you earned points. Like a highway the day it starts to be constructed it is not available to to travel from one end to the other.

The points are up to date as far as the records that were available to input. The events are only shown for those events that were able to be entered during the development process.

Don't contact your chapter for events that are not shown from before the records began to be shown. Again if you attend and event and earn points it should show up within a REASONABLE amount of time so that you can verify that you have received your anticipaged points.

Please remember that your Chapter Judging Chairmen have just been swamped with organizing the event you attended. Some of them also have lives outside NCRS. Give them a enough time to recoup from the event that you attended before you expect points to be posted.

If your wife, children/step children or significant other earn points they will need to create a profile here on the Tech Board in order to track them.

Have them go to this link to complete the TDB Registration and account Activation process:
    https://www.forums.ncrs.org/register/initiate.php

If they don't show up as a relative please go to the Helpdesk and request that they be added to your account. Please remember to include your username to allow us to associate them with the proper account.

Please update/correct their contact information; i.e. address, phone number, e-mail address, etc.

Successful completion will redirect you to the TDB forum logon. www.forums.ncrs.org/

Bookmark this link or save to Favorites in your browser.
Please sign into the new TDB using the following: your user name which is first name space last name space open parenthesis NCRS# close parenthesis.

Use the password you created. Please write it down along with your User Name.

    Thanks,

Quantify John's statement - Events since May 2009 are shown. Previous to May 2009 events names may not be listed, but earned points from these events are included in the total. Enjoy the new feature. Gary....

        Roy,

Get another 69 points and you get a free black hat. That is it is free if you don't count the cost of going to the meets to get those points.

              great Job John and Rob!

Rob has given me a training and I must say it is really user friendly and I encourage every judging chairman to use and enjoy it.

              Next stop - only registration?

Please notice that the backlog for all 2009 events for have now been processed. You should see your entries for THIS year now back in your user profile. If anything is missing please contact your judging chairman to get this corrected.

                regards,
                Rob.

                  Re: Judging Point Recognition UPDATE!

A little clarification here, Rob... Contacting your local Chapter Judging Chairman about judging points earned prior to September, 2009 when the system went 'live' for us to enter on isn't quite the correct/whole story!

If folks went to Regional/National meets in 2009 before the new system went live, the local chapter judging chairman isn't the 'go to' guy... That guy is the meet judging chairman responsible for the particular event in question.

Next, if the event in question WAS a chapter level meet, then that chapter judging chairman CAN help the research/correction effort, but he can't 'magically' correct the issue by himself as those points were submitted in traditional fashion through the office of the National Judging Chairman.

Bottom line, there are limits on what a local chapter judging chairman can do for his 'flock' regarding past events. As time goes by and we use the new system more/exclusively, the RESPONSIBLE meet judging chairman will have more power/authority to address/correct things...

                    Re: Judging Point Recognition UPDATE!

Jack, I have found that 99+% of the errors are made by the event judging chairperson or registrar, whomever does the paperwork. Sometimes names are totally illegible, the team leader does not get all his judges on the sign up sheet, the lists are lost somewhere between the meet and the National Judging Chairman's office.

Thanks for confirming the math to get a hat, Terry...I was scratching my head. I received the hat at Boston in 2007 but my profile shows only 84 points. Strange...I wonder if I have to give it back? (Fat chance)

Emailed explanation: At the national convention, the NJC usually awards Master Judge hats to those judges within 15 judging points or thereabouts of qualification. So, for judges approaching that number of judging points...better attend the convention business meeting; you might get surprised.

Since I haven't added any judging points in two years...maybe I should give it back.

How many "years" and travel plus money does it take to get 100 points , Not that I wont one .

                          Re: Judging Point Recognition UPDATE!

I can tell you that I foolishly told one of the now National Team Leaders that he could get to 100 level in one year. We wore out a car, spent a lot of money (no neither of us kept track -- we didn't want to know) and he went from 0 to 100 level in one year. We showed up at so many meets he got made NTL – I already was, so no bonus for me. I haven't yet figured out if his position was a bonus or not.

Would I do it again -- NO F'ing way.
And it would cost a whole lot more today that it did when we did it.

We are located in the Midwest where there are more meets than on the West Coast. I suspect the East Coast would be about the same as the Midwest in terms of the number of meets. I can tell you that every weekend all Summer long we were on the road to some meet, and we made all the weekday judging schools within 500 miles. And yes at the time we both had real jobs, although mine was 12-hour shift work, so I had a lot of flexibility in my hours and days off.

Since I haven't gotten there yet, others will have to answer that question. I've never judged to gain "The Hat" anyway, and consequently never kept track of attendance expenses. I heard someone joke that it cost $10000 and ten years for his "Hat", but that may have been wry humor.

I believe there is an inverse relationship between required time and dollars spent to achieve Master or other judging goals. In other words, if you limit your travel to nearby events, your travel expenses will be less, but it will take more years since there are fewer opportunities and judging points are accumulated slowly. If you travel nationwide to events, and have opportunity to judge, the financial cost will be greater but the time in years will be shorter.

There are other areas of event participation, some of which are very important to the judging process, that yield judging points without actually judging. I also suspect you can win a "Hat" by simply attending enough judging schools.

There is a standing joke (with some level of truth) -- that there are those who have received "the hat" strictly on Judging Seminars.
