    New links on the baord

As I the only one who finds the new links to Facebook, Tweeter and Google search and the rest annoying? If I want to like you you will know it and I don't need a button to do it.

If you're using the Firefox browser, Adblock plus can be enabled to block all these annoyances. They may be 'part of the game' to support open sites through ad revenue, but I don't see why we need to have them here.

      Terry,

Social networking is here now, at least until the next big thing comes along. If we want to attract younger members to NCRS we have to go where they are. Facebook, Twitter and now Google+ are where they are found.

The more members who click on the like buttons the more impressions we will have on these popular sites. The chances of some younger Corvette lover finding out about NCRS are improved by having a presence on these social media sites.

NCRS now has a Facebook page and it would be good for all of us to visit that page from time to time.

Post something nice about NCRS on the wall if you can.

The problem is, when you hit the FB link (furthest left) what it posts on your (my) FB page is the "Your 31 day trial blah blah blah" which is quite useless to anyone.
I ended up deleting it from my FB page.

        Perhaps that could be adjusted?

Terry, I agree, I'd like them removed. Beside that I believe they all have security problems. Only post stuff there if you would not mind seeing it on the from page of the newspaper, else stay away.

I hear enough about Facebook from my daughter. NOTHING I have heard makes me feel good or want to "like" it.

When we are face to face I will tell you some of the stories of inappropriate behavior by adults I have heard about posted to Facebook -- even by some of my relatives sad to say. I can't put them here because this a a "family" site -- or so some would have us think. I don't think Facebook in any way promotes family values.

Zoe just started teaching sixth grade. She checked the Facebook pages of her students. She found them "representing" for gangs, and is now more aware of the symbolism of what they do in class. Is it good she found out more about her students? Absolutely. Is it good for those "tweens." No way Jose. And that is just the tip of that iceberg. She now understands that the recent "fight" in the bathroom was not horseplay. They were beating someone out of the gang. And this is sixth graders?? OMG I can tell you more in person. I have probably said too much here.

If we have to resort to this to attract young people we are finished.

I don't even go there, and I can not see any circumstances that would make me want to go there.

Re: New links on the baord

I would suggest that this is a "private" board, and that if anything the links lead to the NCRS FB page, not back to this board. This is especially true if the worthless "31 day trial" wording is all that gets linked.

Mike, Do I have to "like" you to get rid of this stuff?

I just enabled Adblock + and those pesky thing are still there. Do you have a stronger prescription for me Dr Mike?

Edit add: I had to read the directions, of all things. "Poof" thanks for the suggestion Mike. I am not longer bothered by these satanic images.

                    Terry,

Totally agree with you, we can do without the links. To make matters worse, they take too long to load. The rest of my page is already loaded and I can't select the button for new post until these links load.

Glad it worked. Reading directions? You're not supposed to admit to it. The default settings should get rid of almost everything on it's own. If not, right click over the offending object and select 'Adblock plus: Block Image' a new window will pop up, select 'Add filter'

                        Guys,

New members are required for NCRS to continue and thrive. Our membership is aging.

As John said the goal is to attract and sign up new "younger" members.

NCRS has to have new and younger members to continue our hobby's legacy and not to become a legend.

As Mike said use FireFox and filter them out.

Mike thanks for your help. I had to right click and select "Adblock plus: Block frame" That worked for the most part. I still get a small number that I can't get rid of in the area, and if I move the courser over the spot I still get the large pop up box with all the social site options and that startles me when it blinks on the screen. I will learn to live with it. I have more important things to waste my time on.
