    Announcement: TDB Upgrade - Status

Please notice, the TDB will not be available at December 27th during the day due to a needed upgrade to VBulletin version 4. We expect the TDB to be available somewhere in the afternoon but when needed it could take all day before we allow access to ensure all is well...

BTW: this upgrade will fix the poor response for some of our dear members caused by the Like and Twitter buttons

        Re: Announcement: TDB Upgrade

And if it does NOT fix the delay, will there be a method to delete/escape this "upgrade"? Frankly, I'm having a hard time figuring out why it was something that had to be done in the first place. Or is the answer to be something along the line of....to make this up grade work, please perform the following 320 steps.....it wasn't busted, why did we try to fix it?

          Re: Announcement: TDB Upgrade Delayed

Upgrade delayed. We did a test upgrade on a backup system and had some problems. We want to perform another test upgrade before we do the working Tech Board.

This is a major upgrade and takes several hours to complete if all goes well. Until we can do a couple of successful upgrade tests we don't want to attempt an upgrade on the live Tech Board.

The upgraded version does have a newer look and provides some real nice features that are currently not available so it will be worth the hassle when it is done. There will be a little bit of learning curve for users to take advantage of the newer system, but it will work pretty much the same if you don't use any of the new features.

We will make a new announcement a few days before we are going to attempt.

It is almost done now, give us another hour and we should be done...

                      Re: Announcement: TDB Upgrade Delayed

Oh why oh why must we change? I just don't get it why IT guys always have to be changin' something. First of all, I HATE COMPUTERS and having to learn new tricks continually doesn't increase my affection. Both of my adult offsprings have degrees in IT, with one having a Master's and contemplating a PHD, and have both careers in field and they think continuous change for the sake of change is just fantastic. The constant "UPDATES" popups that hit my screen almost daily have made me truly hate the word UPDATE almost as much as I detest the use of the word GREEN, formerly my favorite color by the enviro-n azis. If someone were to ever walk through my front door and tell me they had an "UPDATE" for my computer I would probably throw a punch. I just bought a new super fast, super big (memory wise) desktop and it runs something like Windows Super Sport/XL/XS/Big Block/Positraction and EVERYTHING is different. Microsoft Word, or any program to type a letter is nowhere to be found, and although included in each of the dozen or so previous ones I've owned, now they want to charge for a simple letter writing program. Instead of having a favorites list, I have a favorites bar which seems to have limits, and I finally got a helper to make a list instead, but with out paying attention, it's easy to hit the bar again and then the list becomes hard to find. There are lots of new symbols on the tool bar that I don't have a clue what in the hell they mean, so I'm having to make a cheat sheet to translate them into something memberable and useable. There ain't no "my pictures" anywhere in "my files" so the saved picture goes out into la la land somewhere never to be seen again, presumably to some minister of finance in Nigeria who keeps wanting to send me a billion bucks for safe keeping.

I help a friend in S. Florida run a high performance boat website as an Administrator. We have about 60K registered members with maybe half active and half of that super active. Most of what I do is moderation and chasin' freeloaders who try to run a mini business on the site without buying adversing priviledges. Anyway, anytime any bored college boy at V Bulletin has any kind of brain fart about how the format could be made more complicated and genuinely aggravating for the members to figure out and use, we're the first in line to do a changeover, which usually results in being down for a day or three. We've had loads of complaints over the last year about the upgrade to V Bulletin number XXXXXVVVIII or whatever the current number is. It does not resemble the past or current version run here and is a ROYAL PIA IMHO. It slows the computer down considerably even with this new gazillion megahertz trilla gigabites computer I've got. The search function is junk and in a year has never been corrected. Hit "find all searches by" and it doesn't show anything newer than 3 years old. Assuming that member has been around that long, clicking on his name will then give an option of "find most recent posts". The old ADVANCED SEARCH worked really well, so it simply had to be changed. The old V Bulletin, similar to the former one here and identical to what the Team Chevelle website runs is light years better for the simple user. But I guess if everything stayed the same, the computer geeks couldn't have their meetings, couldn't work out the "UPDATES" and would probably get bored and maybe find a REAL hobby, like collecting and restoring old cars or somethin'. (I'd like to post wunna' them roll eyes or winky faces here, but looks like the upgrade wiped 'em all out)
