Re: NCRS Technical Discussion Board Upgrade Complete

I was hopeful that the upgrade to the board would allow 3 character searches like "LT1". Alas, that problem wasn't fixed. When I requested a search for "LT1" I got zero results, and when I added "1970" to the search I got all threads with 1970, regardless of whether LT1 was also in the thread.

Also, on the old board, when I was finished typing a post I would go to the bottom of my post and select the year of my 'vette. Now in order for me to identify the year I need to click on "Go Advanced" first and then select the year. Just one more step to finishing the post, which didn't exist on the old board.

    Thanks.

      Alan,

Try this in the keyword box......

      lt1* OR lt-1
      or,
      lt1% OR lt-1

The * will find anything after lt1, including any amount of spaces or characters. e.g. "This LT1 is really nice!" or "lt1's are Great!"

The % will find just one character or space after lt1.

      Rich

edit: Sorry it looks like the "%" doesn't work as I thought.

        Ken,

        Just a thought:

Try searching for "1970 AND LT1" I think that will bring up those threads that have both 1970 and LT1 in them. I am not sure if you have to use the quotation marks or not -- and I have not tried this. John Waggoner posted something about it in one of these threads, so give it a shot.

            Clem,

Tested quick navigation at the bottom of the forum with FireFox 9, Chrome and IE8 - all "jump" to the selected forum in the same window.

            What browser are you using?

              Peter,

Thank you for asking. John and Rob put in many hours in the last couple of weeks to complete the upgrade for NCRS Technical Discussion Board members.

Will answer for John since he's not available today. The following are the major User enhancements. Not to mention the old software was outdated.

              Gary

GREAT ! Thanks for adding this new functionality. The new format will take some getting used to, but I'm sure we will all get the hang of it pretty quick.

                Thanks again

                    Rich and Terry,

Thanks for the input. It seems that using 1970 and lt1* works best. When I used "1970 and lt1" I got all the 1970 threads without the lt1 qualifier, but with the asterick after the lt1 I got results using both qualifiers.

                    Thanks.

found one Rob - you have created your own "post counter override button" - according to your profile you have posted 4588 messages on this forum and me thinks this is somewhat on the high side

I dont like this new version, I dont undersatnd why it was needed to change it. Most people on this board are over the age of 50+. and it just worked so much better for us old farts. I DONT LIKE IT. IMO it is just simply harder for me to use!!!

Personally I like this format. I view a couple of other forums that use this version of vBulletin. It took me a few minutes to master the location of everything, but Life is Good

I do like the ability to look at multiple posted pictures serially -- that is by clicking on "next" rather than having to close one image and click on the next. Saves me clicks. I don't want to spend all my clicks too soon. Does anyone know what happens when we run out of clicks?
