Search function using specific member name not working?

There was a discussion about flywheel inspection covers that I participated in not long ago. I wanted to find that Thread again, so I went to advanced search and entered my name and member number in the appropriate box. In the search terms box I typed "inspection cover". The search engine returns no results.

When I do a regular general search (without my member name as a search limitation filter), it brings up lots of Threads with the words "inspection cover". I found the old Thread I was looking for, and not only are the words "inspection cover" used in the Thread by others, but I also used the term "inspection cover" in at least one of my own posts.

Why couldn't the search engine find this Thread the first time, using my member name/number as a search limiter, in order to return only search results of Threads that I participated in, and where the words "inspection cover" were used somewhere in the Thread?

    Scott,

I also tried to search for 'inspection cover' and 'inspection AND cover' with your name and found nothing except this post that does contain 'inspection AND cover'. My guess is that you miss-typed inspection in your post. If you search on your name and just cover or some other identifying word you would probably find it.

      John,

I checked the Thread, the term "inspection cover" was used a couple of times and spelled correctly, here is the link and a picture of the post in question (term "inspection cover" highlighted by the seach engine from a general search): https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...spection+cover

I cannot find this Thread when searching under my name and member number in the Advanced Search (this "Discussion Board Help!" thread shows up, but no others). If I do a general search for "inspection cover", the search engine returns 175 Threads, and I can eventually find the Thread link referenced above, the actual Thread title is: Clutch Inspection Cover.

If I use Advanced Search, using my name and member number as a search limitation in order to narrow the search results, and then search for the words "inspection cover" (without quotes), shouldn't it return the Thread referenced above (titled "Clutch Inspection Cover"), in which I also posted, using the actual words "inspection cover" in my post?

P.S. I also tried Advanced Search, using my name and member number as before, and searched for the word "cover" only. It returns 22 Threads in which I have used the word "cover", or someone else in the Thread has used the word "cover", but the Thread in question (Clutch Inspection Cover) is not among the 22 search results.

        Scott,

Read Rich Mozetta thread in the Help forum on searching - thread # 91383

I searched on your name from both search and your posts by clicking on your name "view all posts" and found your inspection cover post on 11/26/11 thread # 770725

Searched on (clutchANDinspectionANDcover) and Joseph Mule (13499) thread with your post was on the first page of search results

          Scott,

After experimenting quite a bit we did find that in Search Multiple Content Types the query would not work correctly. But in the Search Single Content Types it works perfectly. You will find a tab at the top of Can't explain but it is obviously a bug.

I will investigate and see if we can find a solution that makes both query types work the same.

Thanks very much for the update, good to know I'm not losing my mind (completely)
