Re: posting pics
Hi Brad,
I'm not sure I understand your question. There is a FAQ on posting pictures in the FAQ section. Let me know if this answers your question and if not what your exact question is...Rob.

If you're trying to post an image directly from your computer (not from a third-party hosting site), it's quite simple - takes less than a minute.
1. When you want to post, click on "Go Advanced" below the box where you compose your post, and enter your text in the new box. At the end of your text, hit "Enter" three or four times - this ensures that your photo thumbnail will appear below your text.
2. Scroll down and click on "Manage Attachments".
3. When that screen comes up, click on the "Add Files" icon in the upper right corner.
4. Below the box that appears at the upper left corner, click on "Select Files" - this presents a window for you to browse your computer and select the photo you want to upload.
5. Below the same box, click on "Upload Files", and a tiny thumbnail of your photo will appear at the lower left corner with a check mark in its box. If you have more than one photo to upload, select and upload them now - all will appear in the same lower left area.
6. At the bottom of the window on the right, click on "Insert Inline"; the check mark in each photo's little thumbnail at the lower left will disappear, telling you the photo has been inserted in your post. Then click on "Done", then click on "Submit", and your finished post (text and thumbnail photo) will appear.
Sometimes step #4 and #5 (select and upload) will be done at the upper right, adjacent to the "Add Files" icon, with a "Browse" icon instead of in the box at the upper left, but it works the same way. This sounds complicated, but it really isn't - takes less than a minute once you get used to it.- Top

Re: posting pics
John, I too am having difficulty uploading photos to the site. I had followed your instructions, and selected only one photo file from my computer to upload. However, the dots just keep spinning. Even after 4 minutes, nothing is uploaded. Any thoughts? Thanks.- Top

Re: posting pics
James
sounds like your image files are too large to load. They only need to be something like 56k and people today are shooting 8-12 MB images. Suggest you try reducing the size.
see below from the FAQs above re. size of images.
Photos can be posted by clicking on theimage in the editor screen..This will bring up a box where you can browse on your computer for the image you wish to upload, or you can upload an image from a URL. URL is a link directly to the photo from a location on the internet.
There are limits to the size of photos allowed to be posted. Full size camera images would soon fill the server’s storage space.
Typical camera photos can be from 5 to 15 megabytes in size. The limit for posting here is 300 kilobytes. If the photo is larger than that the server will resize it to 800px x 600 px. A typical photo I tested from my camera was 12.4 meg in size. 2544 X 1696 pixels. That is 35 inches by 23.5 inches in size. That means that you would have to scroll your screen from top to bottom and from side to side to see the entire picture.
In order to have a little control over the optimization rather than depend on the server software to automatically do it I optimized the photo so I could upload it to the forum. After optimization this picture is 800 X 533 pixels and reduced to 256 colors. After optimization it is only 57 kb in size and works well.
Many of the image editing programs that come with printers and with cameras will optimize a photo for the web. I can not begin to tell anyone how to use the programs that you have with your printer/camera, but look in the help file of your program for Web Ready or Optimized. These terms will lead you to what you need to find out how your program will reduce a photo so that you can post it here.
Another option if you don't have a good photo editor is to use the Freeware Program Irfan View. It has been around a long time and is highly rated by all of the sites that rate programs. I haven't used it in years, but it is supposed to be easy enough for a beginner and good enough for some decent editing of photos. You can download it from many sites. Here is one that I have trusted for years. Download.com
OK James
then the size is not the problem. It is something else and I am stumped. Perhaps Gary or John or someone else will know what your solution is.
good luck

Re: posting pics
James,
Recommend you read the FAQ's on photo posting, if you haven't.
https://www.forums.ncrs.org/faq.php?...xt=1&match=all
FYI, when someone reports something doesn't work. That doesn't tell the Moderators much. Step by step of what you did and what each step result was is necessary to know if order to provide assistance.

Re: posting pics
Gary,
I did read the FAQ's. In fact, I had downloaded the Irfan View software as recommended. I used that software to resize the pics. The file sizes are in the range of 50 ~ 60 kb. I had followed John Hinkley's step by step instructions (as I had indicated earlier). Things were going smooth until the point that the file needed to be uploaded from my PC. After selecting the file and clicking the upload button, the dots just keep spinning in a circle. Nothing happens. Not even a single photo can be uploaded.- Top

Re: posting pics
James,
Appreciate your furnishing the information on the steps you've taken.
Questions:
1) What Internet browser and version are you using?
2) sometimes it's a cookie related issue on your PC. Clean out your PC browser cache and cookies or try another browser.
3) Have you tried using the Insert Image button on the tool bar?
4) Have you tried using the "Basic Uploader"?

Re: posting pics
Gary,
1) I'm using IE8.
2) OK, I'll try clearing out the cache and cookies when I'm back on my home PC. However, I'd rather not change browsers.
3) Yes, I had first tried the Insert Image button. No response. It couldn't access my files. That's when I tried John's step by step instructions.
4) Not sure what you mean by "Basic Uploader".

Re: posting pics
James,
1) is IE8 set for "compatibility view/mode"? You can go a Google search to find the Microsoft information on compatibility view/mode.
2) sometimes we have switch browsers to work with interactive website such as the NCRS website. Google Chrome and Firefox have the least amount of problems. IE has more and then there's Safari.
4) click Manage Attachments, add files, then click "Basic Uploader". See the screenshot in the previous post.

1) Yes, my IE8 is set for compatibility mode.
2) I understand. Thanks for the explanation.
4) Thanks for the screenshot of "Basic Uploader". No, I didn't try using that. I will.
I appreciate your help, Gary.
