I recently purchased a 1967 Coupe 427/390 number matching w/air and Transistor ignition. The previous owner had the engine rebuilt with approx. 1000 miles on it to date. He also removed the stock heads, intake, exhaust manifolds and carb and replaced them with Edelbrock aftermarket parts. Luckly he kept all the original parts. I drove the car home and began tear down of the top-end and removed the High performance cam and lifters replaced it with a stock specification from Comp cams. Heads checked out Ok at the machine shop so a valve job was in order. I've reassembled the entire engine back to stock adjusted the valves once during reassemble and after while the car was running.
I hear a ticking sound, and during de-acceleration a popping sound out of the carb and R/s side pipe. I inspected cap and found two small rub marks on both sides of the # 8 terminal. Replaced cap. Checked Timming, new plugs, correct BB wires, used a stethoscope on valve train, checked to make sure rockers did not touch drippers. I did find that the PCV valve made a ticking sound. I will replace it tonight. Could the bearing in the TI be bad? Thank You David
