    C1 Wiper Motor

The wiper motor currently in my 56 is # 5047905.
I think this is for a 56 Bel-Air but not sure.
This car does have washers and the JM says the
wiper motor should be # 5047924.
Does anyone know if these two motors are configured
the same with the top plates being interchangeable
or do I need to hunt up a 924 Motor?
    Thanks in advance Rob

5047905 is for a '57 Chevy, I believe. I bought one at a swap meet and the guy seemed pretty sure, at least.

I don't know how well it would work with a '56 Corvette, but I know that I would have had to alter the mounting bracket to get it to mount on my '58. It is also only a single speed motor. For '58 Corvette, we need two speeds. Again, I don't know the '56 situation, though.

Noland's book suggests that the wiper motor # should be
5047223 for a 56. I've been told when in doubt go with
      the JM. I can't find this 5047905 # anywhere.

My early 57 has wiper motor 5047988, what car would this be from? Judging guide states I should have motor 5047984. Is there a difference between these two motors?

I don't now if you have a early or late 56 , but early used #5047799 same as 55.

Roy, my car is # 316 about March 1st I believe.
What motor # would you think it should have and do you
know what the 5047905 would be for?
                  Thanks Rob

Rob, My 56 has a 5047909 stamped on the switch cover. It is a mid-April build car. The motor is two speed and the car is equiped with washers. I have an older Dr. Rebuild catalog that lists the w/s wiper motor switch cover plates for sale as separate items. I'm not sure if they're still available. The main difference I've seen between motors is the shape. Some have a radiused corner while others are square, so the switch covers are not necessarily interchangable.

                      Bernard, I don't see the 909 listed anywhere either for a 56

Rob, 7924 is what is considered correct. The switch cover on mine is nearly identical (only the number distinguishes them). The correct cover will have a metal sliding switch mechanism as opposed to the 1957 and later plastic one, and a radiused right rear corner, as opposed to the earlier (1955) 7799 switch, which also has the metal slide, but has a square right rear corner.

                          Rob,
My 56 is VIN 277. Tomorrow I will try and look at it. Its on top of a lift and everything depends on the bottom one starting. Mine has washers too. It was Top Flighted at a National, but that was years before I bought it.
