    Borg Warner T-10 ID???

    I recently bought a T10 on eBay that I thought might prove to be a "numbers match" for my late Jan built 62. The main case date is L 21 61, and the tail case 11-19-61. So far, so good. HOWEVER, once the trans arrived, the main case turns out to be cast iron with aluminum paint. So much for that idea. I didn't pay a lot for the tranny, so I'll probably keep it around for a spare. I would like to know what it is supposed to fit. It looks like it is the right configuration, but I'm not sure. The main case is marked "T10 1 B, WG DIV"
    The tail case is marked "T 10 7B". It does NOT have the "bowtie" logo. What have I got, and will it fit the 62, shifter bolt up ok, etc.? I currently have another iron case T10 in the car that I haven't bothered to check the dates on. It was supposedly rebuilt just before I bought the car, but if I shift smartly into high gear, it will scrape a little. Never had a transmission that would scrape going into fourth, usually the second gear syncro got all the wear. A little bumfuzzled about that one. Anyway, what is this thing? Thanks.

    That trans was used from 1958 to early 1961, approx. Dec. 60 they started using aluminum cases. What you have might be an over the counter service trans.
    Your main case should be T10-1C, extention housing T10-7D and side cover T10-148B. Also in 62 the vin was stamped into the case.

      Given that the tailshaft housing is the right casting number, is it reasonable to assume the trans is a functional replacement?

          Off the main case, just below the other markings.

            Ed -

            It's probably from a full-size passenger car - they continued to use the iron T10-1B main case after the Corvette main case changed to aluminum in mid-November, 1960, which would explain your iron case and aluminum tailshaft with late 1961 casting dates.

              I have 2 T-10-1B cast iron main cases

              in the garage; one has a "Q1" and the other a "Q2" as part of the casting;
              the only dates on the right sides of the main case are month and date, molded in, such as "9-11". What is the assembly stamping data on the LEFT (driver's) side rear of the main case?

                Re: I have 2 T-10-1B cast iron main cases

                The assy stamping is M 41-2. On the right side this one is also got a Q2.
                On the cover plate there is no casting #, but there is a cast date? of 4-12.

                    Re: So you have a passenger car T-10

                    On the main case, rt hand side, just under the "WG div" and "Q 2". It is the typical cast date held on with two screws.
