    C-2 Front Suspension Re-Build

In the near future an experienced friend and I are going to embark on the re-building of my front suspension. I have been researching the archives and have come up with names such as Bair's, VanSteel, Tony's. Any suggestions or experiences with any of these? Since GM ball joints are not available who makes the ball joint the closest to the original GM?? Is there such a thing as re-moving my old riveted ball joint and re-building the ball joint and re-riveting them back in ?? Where is the best place to get new bolts, tie rod ends etc.?? What is the best, painting or power coating the a-arms?? Anyone know of a-arm service in the south-central Penna or northern Maryland area?? You all have helped me before, so I appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thank You

    Don,

I have had good luck with Paragon, Corvette Central and Long Island Corvette.
Some offer the Ball Joint with the rivets. Check each one and determine which is best for you. There is some GREAT people on this site, you may find some NOS units out there!!

Bairs is located in PA. They can do riveting.
Original ball joints are very hard to find. There are some distinct differences between the originals and the available aftermarket units. The most distinct difference is the original has a non-threaded extended area aproximately 1/2 inch long on the joint end that goes thru the steering knuckle. It serves no purpose after the joint is installed so the after market folks left it off. If your joints are still riveted they could be original. Check out the extension on the threaded area below the cotter pin.....
The boot is also not removable on the original but this is not nearly as noticable after installation. Good luck on finding originals. I don't believe anyone rebuilds the joints themselves......
