When using a Melling M-55HV pump on a 65 S/B which Melling pick-up is used?
55-S1, 55-S2, or 55-S3..
I understand the M-55HV (high-volume) is about a 1/4 inch taller than the M-55 and therefore uses a longer pick-up. Also, anybody care to share any tips on measuring pick-up depth when test installing the pan?
Jim - I can't tell you which pick up is correct, but I can tell you how to measure the depth. I use a wad of that green clay my wife has you can stick fake flowers in to arrange....I think you can buy it at WalMart, Target, Kmart, etc. It works great, and leaves an impression, which you can later cut through with a knife and measure the depth. This also works well for checking valve to piston clearance when assembling an engine....Craig
