I have a 65 L78 that I am restoring for judging. Does anyone have information regrarding the "correctness" of the Gold Stripe repros that Kelsey Tire sells?

I have a set from Coker and took the standard 10% deduction in judging. I assume the ones you are talking about would do the same. The deduct is for repro with DOT number. Don H. -

I spoke to Kelsey Tire about this prior to purchasing Goodyear Goldline Power Cushions. As I understand it, the Firestone Deluxe Champion Goldline offered from Coker was not a production model tire for Corvette - rather the Firestone SuperSport was. Also - I believe the Firestone is not the same exact original height for the Corvette as was the original SS nor is the stripe original exact width. The Goodyear Power Cushion reportedly is made form the original mold and reflects accurate sizing as well as correct stripe width. You would of course get deduction for DOT markings.
I must admit that I am not an expert judge re the original vs. current available reproduction tire question and am merely raising points that were made when I inquired. I would hope that others may comment on these points to clarify validity of these comments.Comment

I agree fully with Peter Martin. The Firestone Super Sport (if it was available) would have been about 1/2" wider in section/treadwidth, just like the Goodyear Power Cushion.
