    62' Window Track

I am working on a very hard cranking passenger door window. I rebuilt the regulator, and it works perfectly. The window run that attaches to the outside end of the door is very tight against the window. The felt on the inside is worn somewhat and it is still too tight for the window to glide smoothly. It is a new GM part, number is 3723512, I bought about 20 years ago. It seems like the channel has less inside dimension than it should. Has anyone seen this before? Are the reproduction parts from Chicago Corvette any better?

John, window runs are fun. You will probably need to reduce the inside dimension in order for the window to moo freely. This is probably after the fact, but before securing the felts to the garnish molding you nee to trim the mounting surface of the felts. To date the best fitting felts are produced in Nortonville, Kansas, the company used to called Country Corvette (Joe Malicki).

John, It just so happens that I have an original ('56) rear window channel in my hand. The "U" measures .545 from inside metal to inside metal. To the inside of the metal channel a piece of mohair material has been formed in a "U" and glued to the three sides. I replaced the materialin this channel about 30 years ago. I can't remember exactly what I replaced but I'll bet it was something close to what it is now. The channel insert was never one of "catwiskers" pieces. Hope this helps.

Thanks for you help. The 56' window is a little different in shape than the 62' but I suspect the thickness is the same. The channel that I have is only .520 metal to metal. With the felt insert it is just too tight for the window to glide smoothly. I ordered a repo from Chicago Corvette. I will just have to wait and see if it is any better.

          John:

I had the same problem you describe. Reproduction window channel liners are too thick. I found that material the thickness of a T- Shirt, (That's what I used), worked just fine.
