    Jacking C1 Front End

What's the best way to jack up the front end on a C1? I've been jacking on the 3rd arm bracket and everything I've read is saying that a no no. I thought of building a wooden support to fit on both sides of it, but thought I'd seek advice first.

    Thanks,

    Ted

I have been jacking on the third arm bracket for years and haven't damaged anything yet. Dale Pearman says the earlier cars, 57 back maybe, have a weaker bracket and there is a possibility of damage. A wood block arrangement that spans the bracket would probably be the best solution, however.

      Ted,
The problem is not jacking under the third arm bracket, it is jacking under the third arm nut! Jacking under the hump of a 58-62 third arm is a pretty stout place to jack, but if you jack against the nut that the third arm pivots on, the rear third of the bracket will break off and leave the third arm un-attached to the car! I have seen several broke in this place but have never seen a bracket broken in the middle.

I used to jack on the third arm until a friend told me he broke the arm on his 57 that way, and he was not jacking on the nut. Since then I have used a wooden saddle to jack the front end, however clearance can be a problem. You need a low profile jack or a thin steel support instead of wood. I have even less clearance with the 205 radial tires than with the 670 X 15 tires.
