    Gary-----

The part number for the balancer, both original PRODUCTION and current SERVICE, is GM #3817173. However, all PRODUCTION balancers and early SERVICE balancers had reinforcing ribs ("fins")on the rear side of the balancer hub section. SERVICE replacements sold over the course of the past 15+ years, even though available under the original part number, do not have the ribs.

        Karl------

I believe that the original balancer for your application was GM #3760584. This was the "stepped" balancer. It was discontinued over 35 years ago and replaced by GM #3896904 which remains available to this very day. However, while the latter balancer will SERVICE your application perfectly, it is not configured like the original.

Joe - is the same service replacement correct for the '65 and '66 L79s? And would it work on an L75? Thanks.

            Mark-----

The GM #3817173 is the correct SERVICE part number for ALL L-79s. This balancer is NOT correct for L-75s. It could be used, but that would also require changing the timing tab and the entire engine pulley system. The L-75 balancer was thinner than the L-79 and, for the most part, a different set of pullies was consequently used with it.
