What problems will a broken windshield post tab cause? I broke my fresh re-chromed post tab during installation. The bottom molding is giving me a problem fitting properly. I tried epoxy on the tab but is not strong enough to hold.

Danny-----
It's not really clear, at least to me, what part that you're referring to. Also, you didn't mention what year car is involved. In any event, for the purpose of this response I'm going to assume that it's one of the upper corner windshield moldings that you're talking about on either a C2 convertible or any C3. This is the part with the round orifice with installed nylon bushing.
If, indeed, that's the part that you're talking about, then I think that you will need to find a replacement. This point serves as an important anchor point for the convertible top or for the roof panels on a C3 coupe. The molding piece in question is, I believe, manufactured from zinc diecast material. It is difficult to repair and maintain the required strength. However, if you can find someone experienced with the low temperature welding rod sold by the Cecil Muggy Co. of Torrance, CA, that person might be able to repair the part. If it were me, though, I'd be looking for a replacement. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Broken Windshield Post Tab.
Danny,
Fix it the right way. I believe there are several sources that will machine the door post and repair the tab area with a metal insert. From memory, Corvette Central may offer this. Possibly you'll find an ad in "The Driveline" for this service. Regards,- Top

Re: Broken Windshield Post Tab.
This needs to be fixed before you proceed. It will actually make the windshield a little easier to assemble. Corvette Central offers the service as well as some other places. I recently saw someone on eBay advertising the service under Corvette parts. CC at one time charged about $55 to do this. It will not affect your new chrome.- Top

Re: Broken Windshield Post Tab.
Danny, I had my post modified at CC several years ago and had no problem with CC. There are two studs that you will need to install in each post. These studs go through the dash and the hold down nuts attach to. One of those studs bottoms out in the post. The other stud is screwed into a threaded hole that goes all the way through the post. I would highly recommend that you use lock-tight on the stud that screws into the threaded hole. The first time, like a dummy, I did not use lock tight. As I was tightening the nut the stud was also turning and made significant contact with the windshield rubber gasket/windshield. About two months later the windshield cracked from the additional stress applied by the stud. At the time that was about a $400 mistake. Good luck.- Top

Re: Broken Windshield Post Tab.
Danny - I restored a 58 in 1980. Tabs on both windshield posts were broken - they still are. The only problem I have experienced is with the soft top. Without the suppport of the tabs a tight top will pull the windshield back noticably. If you're not using a soft top you can get away without fixing this problem - if you have a soft top and are planning on using it I recommend you fix the problem. One of these days I will fix mine.- Top
