Yes I've checked the manual for the color on the egg crate section of the 70 grill. It says sand color. All of the ones that I've seen are flat black. What is the correct color and if it isn't flat black, where do you get the sand gray ? Thanks

Re: 70 Grill Color
Jeff,
It's a charcoal gray. The exact mix and numbers can be found in searching the Archives.

Re: 70 Grill Color
I used a fancy charcoal color I found at Lowe's. I think some type of "weathered bronze" or some such nonsense. Anyway, more weather repellant than cast blast which never seems to hold up in real life situations.

Re: 70 Grill Color
Geo,
I used wheel cleaner for aluminum wheels (open pore wheels, not clear coated ones) to really clean them and totally remove any corrosion after I had used paint stripper to clean them. That pot metal can corrode, and old corrosion can hide in crevices. After rinsing thoroughly with water I then used self-ecthing primer in a spray bomb, and then paint. They still look great today.
Of course, as you know Dad's car only has 2 miles on it since then, so it's not like they've seen a lot of the elements.

Re: 70 Grill Color
And besides, the way they're positioned under the bumper, the sun can't get to them to fade the paint.
My pass side is original, and looks like new, the drivers side has the "port" for the fiberoptics cable, so it was most likely from a 71, and has some pitting.
