I need to replace the windshield on my 1966 Coupe. All the windows are original clear glass, except for the windshield which is a PPG replacement. I do not have the original build sheet, as the one on the gas tank was destroyed beyond my ability to read and one was not found under the dash. Is there any other way to tell if my car had the tinted only windshield option - I think it was option A02? I do have the original protect-o-plate if there might be a code on it.

Re: C2 Windshield
Steve-----
There is no way to tell which windshield was originally installed without some form of original documentation like window sticker, build sheet, or dealer order paperwork. The info is not encoded on the P-O-P.
Otherwise, if I were you, I would assume that the car was originally built WITH tinted windshieldIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 66 build sheet???
Steve,
I was curious about your posting. You said that the gas tank build sheet was destroyed beyond readability. I've not heard that any '66 cars came with the
gas tank build sheet. Is your care a very late '66 build date car?

Re: 66 build sheet???
My coupe is a June 1966 car. What I found on the top of the fuel tank may not have been a build sheet. It appeared to be a piece of paper, about the size of 8 1/2 by 11, as best as I can remember. It had gotten wet and was in a bunch of bits and pieces and partially stuck to the tank on the top left side. You probably know when they started putting the build sheets on the cars, I really don't know if it was one or not. I can get the serial number if that would help. I am now curious as to whether or not it had one. Let me know if the serial number would matter and I will post it tomorrow.- Top

Re: 66 build sheet???
Steve,
My car has a July 20, 1966 build date and it did not have a build sheet. To the best of my knowledge, I don't know of any documented cases of 66 cars having build sheets, hence my curiosity about your sheet.

Re: 66 build sheet???
I will then just assume that what I found was not a build sheet but some other sort of 'debris' that happened to end up on the fuel tank. Your 66 was certainly built after mine and based on your exerience probably accurate. Thanks for the input. I have owned mine since 1977 and never really got into restoration. It has been off the road since 1984 and I am in the process of finishing it up for the spring. Enjoy your 66!!- Top

Re: 66 build sheet???
I was at a Corvette Restorers shop in MA. and they had a late 66 corvette that they said had a tank build sheet and definitely had BLACK fiberglass in areas that were 66 only (no console emergency brake). They were planning to take the body off and would then get a good look at the sheet. I will find out if this happened and post a message.- Top
