    1956 Carburetor Color

Can anyone tell me what the correct color (finish) is for the carburetors on a 1956 two four barrel car. I believe that the base has a natural finish, and both the body and top of the carburetors have a gold color finish. Is this correct? Is there any difference between the color of the carburetors on a first design 1956 engine vs. a second design 1956 engine?

I have seen carburetors with a gold color body and a silver color top. What years do these carbs apply to?

    Re: 1956 Carburetor Color

Edward, My 56 is a 225hp car with a build date in June of 56. The carburetors, which I believe to be correct, have a natural iron base plate, a gold color fuel bowl/body, and a silver colored top. I would be glad to send you a digital picture if it will help. There is, at least, a chance that someone with more knowledge than I will contradict my view - in which case I'm anxious to get additional information as well. Steve

I remember when I had my WCFB's rebuilt, Bob Kunz said the cast iron baseplates were originally painted (or "dye-washed") black.

Sorry about that NM. My base plates are black late Feb. car.

John, I just went out and checked mine - and I was incorrect earlier (the older I get, the less I should rely on memory). My base plates are painted black. Steve

              Re: 1956 Carburetor Color

Thanks guys. The real question seems to be the color of the top plates of the carburetors. Some say same gold color as the body of the carb, some say silver color. Pictures in Nolan's various books seem to indicate that first design 1956 engines has silver tops, and second design engines has gold tops. However, I suspect that this is really not the case. I am wondering what the real story is?
