I was proud of myself for finding a '55-'56 passenger car heater blower motor for $40 and not paying $100 for a restored motor through Vette venders. Just the right configuration for my 1960. The owner of the salvage yard said it would only run half speed. No problem, I can fix that. Wrong. These motors were another part that was not designed to be repaired. I disassembled the motor and found out why it was running 1/2 speed; the brass bushings on both ends were frozen to the armeture shaft and the bushings were turning in the holders. The bad news, the bushings came out of the holders on both ends. The bushings will not go back in the holders with the holders installed in the motor case. They were originally installed from the back side of the holders; then the holders were secured to the case; rivets on one end and spot welding on the other. By the time I send the motor off to have the bushings repaired, I will have spent more than purchasing the motor from a Vette vender!!!
Has anyone had personal experience rebuilding a heater motor with bushing problems?
