    1959 Chevy Chart

I have a 1959 Chevrolet chart showing engine usage in various models; unfortunately, the models are "coded" by letter codes and I don't have a magic decoder ring. The codes used are: U, V, W, XA, XB, XC, XD, XE, XF, XG, XH, XJ, XK, XL, XM, XN, XP, XQ, XR, XS, A, B, C, D, E, N, R, S, V, W, J, K, XT, XU, XV, ZA, & ZB.
This gets to be interesting because, among other things, it shows that there was ONE FI "N" car and ONE FI "XB" car. Can anyone help?

Can't really help, but if I recall 59 was the last year that the FI option was offered on the passenger car. Perhaps there was a hydraulic lifter version and a solid lifter version like offered in the Vettes?

      From the parts book, A=Biscayne/brookwood 6cyl, B=Biscane/Brookwood 8cyl, C/D Bel Air/Parkwood (sta wagon) 6 and 8, E/F Impala-Nomad 6 and 8, G-sedan Delivery and el camino (6) H-same as G but 8cyl version. More if I can find them.

        Re: 1959 Chevy Chart

The 'magic decoder ring' can be found in of-the-period Chevy Parts & Accessory Manuals as well as Hollander books. My copy of the 1938-64 Chevy Passenger Car P&A Cat (does NOT include Corvette, Truck or Corvair), gives a nice '59 engine code listing for the configurations of 235/6-Cyl, 283/8-Cyl, and 348/8-Cyl. But I don't see the engine codes you listed....

Engine suffix codes listed for pass car FI configurations are:

        CH 283, 3 Spd
        CJ 283, 3 Spd & HL Cam
        DP 283, PG Trans
        EC 283, TG Trans

FI option was not offered on 6-Cyl or 348/V8 engines

          Wrong Decoder box

I've got those codes Bill and they don't fit - one of my categories on this sheet is "RPO 576 W-3 ENGINE EQUIP" - if memory serves RPO 576 =s
250 HP 348; the chart then shows 14,369 in model "XD"; another part of the chart shows "RPO 577 Hi-Perf W-3 Engine" and its shows that it is used in models "A", "B", "C", "D" and "E" for a total of 2,725 engines.
The Corvette FI category is split off by itself as 'RPO 579 Fuel Injection (867)" and shows 141 in "A", 34 in "C" and 745 in "D" - I'm ASSUMING that means 141 250 HP Manual, 34 250 HP with PG and 745 290 HP, but it's the usage of "A" "C" & "D" here AS WELL AS for the psg car 348 that is confusing as H__l, not to mention all these "X?) codes.

            These are "Car Model" codes,

not engine codes - see the response to Bill up above.

Sure, if I only had a scanner......

I think I sent you a copy once by snail mail a year or so ago. It's page 51 of Section G of the Model year report July 1958 thru August 1959

But you have a wonderful Wife....................

Loren, I don't recall seeing it! Do you think your lovely wife would take it to work and e-mail it to me?
