Re: C3 Jacks
I found in the 75-77 TIJG that (SMP) was stamped into the base is this what you are seeing? SMP is belived to represent Stant Manf. Products. The date code was on a rivit head 642 would be 42nd week 1976. This started in 1976. I missed the year in my first post if it was their.Lyle

Re: C3 Jacks
Jim:
I wrote an article in 97 on jack date codes for the 76 through 79 cars...76 through 78 used a similar date coding and logo stamp and differed from what was used before 76. The date code is on the right side rivet head, uses three digits and would look like 743 or, the 43rd production week of 1977.
I found on the bottom of jacks I used in my research the letters in lower case "smp" However, I did not find this on 76 jacks although they confirmed to the same date code format.
I do know that 75 jacks conformed to the 75 judgin manual but 76 is when a change occurred...though I don't know when in the 76 production cycle. I have yet to determine the source of jack production for the 76-78 model years.Tom Russo

Re: C3 Jacks
This thread picqued my curiosity and provided an opportunity for me to use my new Corvette Restorer CD-Rom encylopedia, searching on "jacks." What I learned was limited but by supplmenting this with a browse through the judging manuals I learned that knowledge of jacks, their manufacturers and date codes is rather complete with the exception of the manufacturer for what I call later model C3s...1979-82!
I'm gonna repost this under new topic...but do you know who manufacturered the late model jacks?Tom Russo
